Data and video on 2012 RS

What is the setup for data, video, and GPS capture on older SR3's? I have a 2012 RS that the previous owner setup with a Solo 2 DL plus Smartycam (and the MXL Strada dash). I am not sure why the Solo was added.

If I just want to record video, include track location info via GPS and be able to see brake and throttle info on the video for coaching analysis, can I just send throttle and brake trace from the MXL to the Smartycam, add the GPS receiver to the Smartycam, and have visibility to the data I want to see on the memory card in the cam?

How do others have their data and video capture setup and connected?

I suspect the Solo is unnecessary as long as I have a GPS receiver but not sure.

The AIM supporting documentation leaves a bit to be desired from a setup / connectivity / guidance standpoint!

Avo shock needed

I am hoping someone has an Avo shock laying around they are willing to let go...I just broke a rear shock and just want to replace the single shock (spring is fine).

SR8 Motor rebuilds

How you other SR8 owners dealing with motor rebuilds? Now that Radical has effectively discontinued them resale values are low. I'm having aa hard time justifying rebuilding a motor for half of what my car is worth. Sadly, Radical still wants dealers only to rebuild the motors which I can understand on current race cars. However, given SR8's have been phased out I do not understand their reluctance to sell parts to owners. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thank you!

What’s Everyone Doing About Damaged Louvers?

I just bought the car and it’s in excellent condition, except the louvers over the front tires are really damaged. I’m assuming from rocks coming off the front tires.

Crown Racing sells them at $311 each, is there any other options?

AIM data system for Gen2 SR3

This system came out of my 2013 SR3 when I upgraded. If anyone is interested let me know, just want it gone and would rather not throw it out.

Updating firmware in PDM etc

I’m trying to add a new AiM Shift Light Module to my 2020 SR3 XX, chassis SR3-01296.

The current setup is:

- PDM32: firmware 02.35.42

- FSW_R steering wheel: firmware 02.33.52, boot 02.24.00

- SmartyCam GP HD Rev 2.2: hardware release 02A, firmware 01.04.24

- GPS08: connected through the SmartyCam

- New Shift Light Module: firmware 02.40.55

Race Studio 3 detects the SLM but refuses to transmit the configuration with it added, stating that the PDM firmware must be updated first. I haven’t performed any updates yet.

Does anyone know the supported firmware combination for this setup, particularly with the Radical-specific FSW_R wheel?

- Which units need updating, and to which exact versions?

- Does updating the PDM require a corresponding SmartyCam or FSW_R update?

- In what order should the updates be performed, and which devices should remain connected during each step?

Just nervous about bricking something or ending up with some of the issues I've seen described on this forum.

Radical RXC: Altenator died and electrical issues

Hi all,

I've owned my RXC 500r (MY2017) since 2022 and have run into a frustrating chain of issues on recent trackdays. Hoping someone here has seen similar.

For context: the car is in full stock/series configuration and, as far as I'm aware, saw no trackday use before I took ownership – so the recent sessions are essentially its first real track exposure. It has done 10.000 km, 4000 km are of my doing - road and track (track maybe 15%)

What happened:

Trackday 1: Alternator overheated and failed towards the end of the day. Limped into the pits at 11V with the engine stumbling.
Trackday 2 (after repair): During a tyre temp check I spotted smouldering wiring in the engine bay, right near the alternator. Root cause turned out to be a blown gasket between the manifold and downpipe – hot blow-by was cooking the loom. Car still ran, but the alternator gave up again near the end of the day and I just made it back to the pit lane.

What's been done so far:

Rear Wiring in the engine bay is being inspected after it was being repaired
Alternator replaced (No3 now)
Crack found in the left downpipe – welded
Manifold and downpipes are being wrapped/insulated in order to reduce heat in the engine bay

Where your help would be highly appreciated: The car is currently apart, so now is the ideal moment to chase any hidden electrical damage. Given the heat exposure near the alternator, which connectors, grounds, or wiring runs would you specifically check or replace? Any known weak spots on the RXC in this area? Or do I need to check the whole car?

Has anyone here dealt with something similar? Really keen to hear your experience.

Which Laptop and Where To Get Downloads From?

My new to me 2019 SR3 w/1340 will be arriving soon and I’m trying to get every I’ll need for it.

Which laptop should I get, it will be used solely for the car. Also, where do I get the downloads from to get the data from the car after a track day?

Easier way to get to front splitter bolts?

Has anyone devised an easier way to mount/unmount the front splitter? It is a pain to get to the 5 bolts on the bottom that hold the spillter to the chassis. My struggle is to hold the bottom bolts tight while spinning the nuts on top when working alone.

In addition some of the top nuts have restricted access due to the pedal box.

Any ideas or just accept it is a furstrating job?
