ECU Fuel consumption
Hey team,
We had our Radical SR3 RS out for its first proper running last Friday. Amazing day, love this car!
Trying to figure out fuel consumption so we know how much fuel to run etc. ECU fuel consumption value for the day was 18.2L but actual consumption was 32.75L. Is this level of discrepency similar to what others see? Wondering if this ratio between the ECU consumption and actual is likely to be consistent? Interested in other's experiences with this and what approach you use to track accurate fuel consumption...
Thanks!
Dave
Hi Dave. I just ran my SR3xx 1500 for the first time yesterday. My ECU consumption was 21.7 L, and after draining and measuring the fuel, my actual consumption was about 28 L. This is about 29% underestimation. Not as dramatic as yours. I have not figured out how to add a correction value so the displayed consumption is more accurate, so I am open for input from others. Thank you!
I can't wait to hear if we can modify the fuel consumption calculation in the ECU! I too just had my new to me 1500 out for a full track day Monday and learned the hard way that a full tank only lasts about 1 hour 50 minutes - not quite 4 full 30 minute sessions. As a matter of fact, it only lasted me 3 full sessions and 2 laps shy of the 4th - yes I ran out of gas 2 laps short of a full session and had to be towed in - embarrassing! I plan to stick to 90 minutes run time between refuels or put 5 gallons in before each session. I also am a bit perplexed about the actual capacity of my Aluminum tank - I know everyone says it is 14 gallons but my full fill volume (after running it out on track) was only 12 gallons...maybe there was 2 gallons still in the tank that the pick up could not reach - not sure...
@brewerbry Sorry you had to be towed! Maybe you are on to something with the residual fuel in the tank. I have the larger 20 gallon tank. If I were to assume that only 18 gallons are usable due to the pickup and foam, etc, then the actual ECU Fuel Consumption calculation was incredibly close to being accurate. Next time I track my Radical, I will continue to track this value.
