hi all!

Got some pics of the car we picked up on Friday. It’s a 2008 and only done about 5hrs from new, paddle shift and a 1350cc. It’s flawless, it’s like it’s been in a bubble for the past 11 years! Very happy with it so far, just changing all the fluids and checking it over before we head out in a few weeks. Only annoying thing is it’s not dry sumped, but I have spoke with radical and they have given me a price (🤮) so going to have to get saving for that!

Hi Sam, does your car have a LIFE ECU or MBE system? If it is MBE you car likely has an open loop geartronics shifter setup and I have the tuning software for it. When I got my car the blipper was intermittent and I was able to use the software to adjust and test the blipper as well as lower the downshift cutoff point to prevent over revs. It was factory set for 9800 which if a downshift from second to first would have occurred at a higher RPM it would have over revved possibly damaging the engine and drivetrain. I lowered that cutoff so that even if I accidentally tap the shifter for a downshift from a high RPM it won’t allow it. I can PM you a link to the software if you have an open loop gear shifter control unit by geartonics. If you send me a pic of your GCU I can tell if it is an open loop system.

@crit thanks mate. I’ve attached the photos.

I did wonder about this, worried if I accidentally tapped it it would down shift and break something. Is it easy to adjust?

Hi Sam, good news and bad news. Bad news is my software won't work, good news is you have the later designed closed loop system that is a lot safer as it integrates the OEM Suzuki gear position sensor. Reach out to geartronics and they will make sure to send you the right software as mine is for the open loop and I only have experience using that one.

And by "my software", I refer to the one that geartronics sent me for the open loop, definitely not trying to take credit. They do an awesome job with their systems and have great technical support.

@m22ble, you have a closed loop system, send them the same picture that you sent me of their GCU showing the GPI-4 sticker and they will make sure to get you the right software. There should be either a serial connector or a female USB slot somewhere on that box. You download their software, plug in the cable into the box and it will instantly connect and you can change any parameters. I would not change anything until you drive the car and see how it shifts. if everything is good, I wouldn't touch it. It's great to have the software though to diagnose as you can activate the shifter and solenoids for testing purposes and also check configurations and that the gear position sensor is working.

Wow!  The car looks fantastic!  You are going to be really happy with that one.  As I mentioned previously, I would recommend reaching out to Forum member Dan Phillips @rlm-dan, he works at RLM and can likely get you converted to a dry sump for a more reasonable cost.  Also, I know someone that told me that he has dry-sump parts so I can reach out to him if you are interested.

Hi Sam (@m22ble),  Does this car have paddle shifting?  Crit mentioned that it looks like your car has the later Integrated shifting, but I don't believe that is correct (no offense).  To me those pictures look like an MBE ECU and the other is the box that controls the gear indicator on the dash.  I don't see anything that would indicate that you have shifting control integrated into the ECU. To the best of my knowledge the shifting became integrated into the Life ECU in mid 2009 and was only on cars that were ordered from the factory with Paddle shifting.

I hope this helps,

Charley

@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com I will now insert my foot in my mouth and keep shut. Sorry if I spread incorrect information.

From the picture of the engine, I saw the gold auto blipper solenoid and assumed he had paddle shifters.

@crit, Please don't "keep your mouth shut" you are providing valuable information.  I just want to get clarification from Sam on if the car has paddle shifting.  I didn't notice the blipper so he likely has paddle shifting.  But that looks like an MBE ECU (the cable says MBE ECU) and I am not aware of an integrated MBE shifting system... But with that said, I learn something new every day 🙂

So, I am not saying that I am right, I just think we should look closer.  What clued you in that this could be an integrated system?

Thanks,

Charley

@m22ble if you have paddle shifters, look and see if you have a box anywhere that looks like this:

It does have paddle shift and it was ordered when the car was built, it’s on the build sheet. I’ll see if I can find the black box you mentioned

Hi Sam (@m22ble),  I would be very interested in getting a copy of the build sheet for your car if you are interested in sharing it.

Thanks,

Charley

This is what a Closed Loop GCU looks like... 🙂

Main difference is the additional USB plug. 😉
