Headed to my first weekend with the Radical on Friday. In addition to the SmartyCam, I've got a Garmin Virb I want to stick on the Radical to get another viewpoint. Any favorites? I thought about facing it backwards, but I'm only doing DE right now so there won't be any racing. I also thought about on the front splitter to get that Indy Car like low to the ground view.

I'm looking forward to seeing the videos!  The position most people  use is to mount the camera to the cross bars behind where the passenger sits.  Here is a picture of my set up.

Make sure you have set up the camera to the dash before you go out to the track.  It is more than just plugging the camera in.  you need to pick a gauge configuration, and then use the software to connect each gauge  to the proper sensor.  Also, if you are using GPS, you need to make sure you have the proper tracks loaded into the dash or the Tack map wont work.

This is how I set up my view, but there are endless design choices.  The thing I like about this view is that you can see the inputs the driver is making.

Also remember to check for bugs between sessions.  🙂

Regarding the second camera, you could put it on the splitter, but it will definitely get pelted with stones and tire rubber.  You could do a side view of the driver, or having it poke just over the dash is cool angle also.

Smarty is setup and good to go I believe but will double check before rolling out. It is mounted on the cross member like you mention.

Upon closer inspection it looks like I need to load the track maps in. That's not immediately obvious to me how to accomplish. Is that something done through RaceStudio 3? Also, how do we create new track maps? The local track here has several configurations and I'm wagering some of them are incorrect.

Garrett, I would recommend contacting Matt (Forum name Trailbrake) from Trailbrake.com.  You can send him an IM through the Forum.  Matt is an Expert with data systems and is always happy to help.
