Hi guys, I’m looking for a power upgrade for my 2013 RS 1500 with Life ECU

normally I would leave it alone but I suffer from a problem when it comes to racing lightweight cars… there’s too much of me!

given the 50kg weight penalty I have I’d like to give it a bit more poke just to keep up

i know you won’t love this idea @rodbender, but it’ll take everything to keep up with you 🤣

any suggestions or leads on what can be done?

I have also been contemplating a turbo on my 2010 1340.  I have spent a lot of time on Facebook Turbo Hyabusa group.  Is all street or drag bike oriented, but I have been learning.  Lots of people do this (some of their posted videos are frightening 😊 )  As Josh's linked ad advises, it seems like the favorite ECU for this is the Maxx unit.  Is difficult to find folks that don't like it: is apparently flexible, powerful, good support, plenty of knowledgeable people, and reasonably cost effective.  Race version can also handle auto blip for down and power cut for up paddle shifting.

Without a complete thread hijack we are currently working on a turbo system for an SR3. It won't be the cheapest but will be reliable, we know the issues that the turbo set up in the car can have and seen too many people try an off the shelf road bike/drag racing kit and have problems - the use is completely different in the car.

In answer to this there isn't really anything can be done in the map alone to improve things, they were built to make the most of the engine with just a small safty margin.

Tuning the engine and mapping to suit will be the only way for a decent power increase.

@rlm-dan in an early 1300 radical I had we found 15hp in a different map…

@beau ... big difference between the level of tune on a RPE1500 compared to the stock 1300 (and later 1340cc) I think... Dan has mentioned before there is a set of cams that can give 5hp on the dyno (but are legal for Radical Cup cars).  I found a set in the original engine in my car and we swapped them out to make sure if ever I sold the car it was legal for Cup Racing here in Australia.  The only other option is bigger displacement... or a S/C or Turbo...

@beau what Rod said!

I can see that sort of gain being had with an earlier car on something like MBE, after all those maps haven't been updated for what 10-12 years?

I could be proven wrong but I cannot see you getting any decent gains out of a Life ECU car with RPE mapping.

There might be a couple of hp there but not sure it would be worth the time and costs involved to get it.

@rlm-dan What is your thoughts on tuning an OEM 2008 Suzuki ecu with some sort of aftermarket device?

@meatman assuming it is still a road bike ECU then there should be some decent gains to be had.

Best option would be to reprogram the ECU instead of any aftermarket additional bolt on. We use Woolich racing but I believe ECU editor is also quite popular.

Standard ECU has a limiter in 6th gear on the revs (top speed limiter on the bike) and has restrictions in the lower gears on the top butterflies.

There should then also be gains due to the different exhaust system, no emissions related things and the airbox.

Thank you for the tip! I believe it to be a stock oem ecu as there is tape on the top with writing "'08 OEM"
