Injectors ground wire
I have a 2014 SR3 1500, My first session today I did eight laps, but the mechanic left out the two bolts that secured the rear diffuser; It ended up, dragging pretty bad. So before my second round, I pulled the diffuser out, fixed it and reinserted the diffuser with two new bolts.
I went to start the car which typically starts with a very short press of the start button, but this time I had to press the start button three separate times to get it to turn over. As I left pit lane it It stumbled a little bit, The cutting in and out and it started to become progressively more frequent… It felt like when you run a car out of gas or like it had bad gas. It was very intermittent. But before I could get around a full lap, the issue became more frequent and finally the car shut off.
The car has plenty of fuel in it, so we pulled the airbox and looked down inside the intake tubes and there is no fuel being delivered when pressing the start button. We also sprayed some starter fluid in there and the car tried to turn over so it has spark.
Since the issue progressively started getting worse over the matter of a minute, I don’t think it’s the ECU going bad and my initial thought would be a ground issue…Maybe I’ll need something when I put the diffuser back on?
Any thoughts???
Does the Life data show that the crank sensor is working? Another remote possibility is clogged fuel filter. The Life data should point you in the right direction.
I agree with Charley, The answer will be in the Life data.
... I'd check fuel pressure first. It should be shown on your dash (AiM MXL2 has it, not sure about AiM MXL?), but it will definitely be logged in the ECU
Having enough fuel in the cell/tank is a good start... having fuel pressure is the main thing. Is suspect your 1500 will target 3 bar to run properly. The ECU trip point is around 2.5 bar I think, but it doesn't sound like that's your problem because your car isn't tripping on the ECU fuel pressure trip. Fuel pressure is a good thing to regularly check.
Thank you both.
I did drain 8 gallons out of there and the fuel seemed to be coming put pretty steady.
in the mechanic is checking the data tomorrow.
@jamesmcga, Thank you for following up. I am glad you found your issue.
