This was a very useful post.  I had the same problem with trying to get data from the ECU and thought it was some kind of bug with my computer, connections, drivers, etc. but it ended up being a dead battery in the ECU.  Unfortunately the only way to get it repaired is to send it back to Radical but once they replaced it, zero issues.   

The reason the ECU battery needed to be replaced is because my car sat for a few months and although it was on a tender, it does not charge the ECU battery.  The car needs to be started every once in a while to keep it from dying.
