Hi all.

so had our first outing in the radical yesterday.... SHIT THE BED!!! What a car! It’s insane and love it! Can’t wait to get back in it, just need to wait for Covid19 to pass and we will be straight back out.

everything went very well apart from a few things...

-speedo didn’t work

-struggles to get 1st gear and neutral when stationary???

any input on these points would be great!

Hi Sam, my speedo wasn’t working either when I got the car. There is a three wire inductive pick up that goes to the front right wheel and hooks into the cluster.  My pick up could be bad but I wound up not chasing it. The gear position indicator also didn’t work. When I checked with radical they said these older instrument clusters are notorious for failing for both gear indication  and speed. I’m using an AIM solo 2  to display GPS speed which is a lot more accurate.  I installed an aftermarket gear position indicator and had a trophy shop make a custom plaque to cover up the nonworking displays on the OEM cluster.

I sometimes struggle to get into neutral but haven’t had a problem getting into first. Just make sure the engine is running when you’re trying to shift it. One trick to getting it into neutral from either second or first is to very quickly and lightly tap the paddle.

Hi Sam, it is great to hear that you had a fun first outing!  The more you drive these the more you like them.  As Crit mentioned the older dashes tend to have failures.  Upgrading to an Aim dash or a Solo is a great investment.  Having the track performance data that the Aims provide is extremely helpful in learning how to drive the car faster.

Regarding your shifting issue... when the car doesn’t want to go into neutral try momentarily letting out the clutch a little bit to load the transmission.  Then press the clutch all the way in again and then press and hold the neutral button and try for neutral again.

having trouble getting into first sounds like the clutch isn’t fully disengaging.  It might be worth giving RLM a call.

Charley

Hmmm, ok, you got me thinking about the aim solo 2...

so, installation, is it easy? Does it need additional wiring or does it plug straight into the ecu and off you go? I have an MBE ecu.

@m22ble, I got the basic AIM solo S2, it doesn’t plug into anything other than a cigarette lighter cable for charging the battery. It uses GPS for timing and for speed. If you get the DL model it interfaces with the ECU but is also nearly twice the price and it offers shift lights and more engine data to overlay on videos for analysis.
