Topic starter

Looking at old threads it appears folks are buying the cheap starters from Amazon or eBay as a spare replacement starter. The factory starter is about $700 and the generic ones are about $100. Is there a substantial difference in build quality? A dealer told me the cheap ones use very soft metal that can end up in the motor. I’m inclined to just get the factory expensive one but wanted to see if anybody knew the difference.

thank much

In my experience so far there seems to be a lot more issues with aftermarket units, whereas OEM never seem to go wrong unless spun!

If your after a spare to get you through a day or race weekend after a spin that a cheap replacement will get you through but I would then recommend replacing it with an OEM item.

I can offer a discount on new OEM which would bring them in alot cheaper than $700 but there is shipping and import to deal with from the UK. You need to get friendly with a local Suzuki dealership so that they offer you some discount!
