How do these work? My car came with one. Is there a display I can buy for lap timing or is this only for sending timing signal to race officials?

There is a serial number on the front. When you go to a track day or a race give that number to the time keeper. The transponder is used to record your lap times. There is a loop built into the track on the start /finish line and it records every time your transponder goes over it. If you have one like in the picture you are lucky because the later versions require a subscription and these do not.

Cool, glad it can be used for track day timing as well as racing. Pretty sure it's the same, I'll snap a pic next time I take the front clam off.
