2010 SR3 RS; New starter with less than 20 starts on it. Twin battery set up. 12.8 volts showing. When cold it turns the motor (although maybe not as fast or robustly as the old one) and it starts. When hot the starter motor whines and won't turn the motor over. Wait for it to thoroughly cool and we are good to go again. Any ideas other than just a bum starter?

Is this a factory / Suzuki starter? Also, what is the voltage of the battery in the sidepod? With the limited information provided my first guess is that the side pod battery is not holding a full charge.
