Just in case someone else is interested I thought I'd post some info on one of my winter projects.  I think most would agree a car has to sound good.  My car came with the huge and somewhat restrictive "quiet" exhaust.  Total lack of snort.

I guess this would be ok if I was running at laguna but I'm not so it has to go as it makes almost no sound and the outlet pipe is smaller than the inlet which has to be dropping at least a few ponies.  Experience tells me that after a short period of time that huge chamber will be devoid of packing and will also rob a few ponies.

Attached are my 3 options.  The quite (no snort) exhaust, the stock (decent snort) exhaust and also a straight pipe (extra snort) exhaust that I put together quick.  Some may balk at the straight pipe but I've had several race cars that didn't run a muffler and still passed sound.  Hoping to get away with it here.

I plan to post a few sound files and db readings.

Ok so my car is at Stradale with an engine issue so there's been a little setback with making the sound files.  Just to tide everyone over I thought I'd post a teaser.

I did manage to make a preliminary recording of my open / straight pipe exhaust.

And new sound file from custom exhaust I'm working on below!  You'll want to turn your sound WAY UP for this one!

Once it hits 50 deg C it shuts down for low oil pressure.  Only has about 9lbs at 1600rpm.  Was able to cheat my way through the last couple of events by raising rpm a little but the issue seems to have gotten worse and now won't restart after shutting down.  During the last two events it had plenty of oil pressure once it was running.  Had to short shift it to stay under 100psi until oil was warmed up but at at idle drops a little low.

Wiring, oil level, sensor all seem good.  Changed oil one event ago with what's recommended.

Sorry to hear that.  I know Franchesco will get it fixed right.  Please post your progress.

Yes, they've been great to work with.  Have no doubt they'll figure it out.  Thought I'd have the go over the car and put a new data unit in it while it was there too.

Hey Guys ,I seen this post and I wanted to chime in on some testing we did with exhaust muffler Couple of weeks ago, Our Cars have the quite silencer on them and we thought they felt a little Chocked up, in the series we run down here in South Florida we have no sound levels so we talked to a buddy of mine that is a awesome welder , he specialize in custom exhaust and tuning 4 cyl high output motors, He suggested we try a Megaphone instead of a straight pipe .. they have found good power gains in there builds,

So he built us a megaphone exhaust and we dyno tested it against a stock old muffler and a new freshly packed muffler

Details

SR3rs  Gen 2 low time stock motor with re flashed ECU and Power commander.

1.  Old used Muffler old packing  2 1/2 exit  (Blue line)

2. New megaphone   3" exit  ( Very Loud )   (Red line)

3. New muffler 2 1/4" exit    ( quite )  (Green Line)

We did 2 pulls each and each pull was almost identical to the other in numbers . So it was consistence

What we found out was the the new muffler made the most power and torque ( green Line) , Second was the Megaphone by just 2 hp and 2 ftlbs of torque (Red Line ) and last was the old muffler but same 2 hp and 2 ft lbs. ( blue line)

To be fair the Megaphone was to big 3" exit and we know that there was not a lot of back pressure, the new muffler had a 2 1/4 exit plus the new packing seem to make the most with around 5 hp and 6 ftlbs. over the old (almost no Packing and 2 1/2" exit.  we will be trying a new megaphone with a 2"exit soon and we will post the result.. here are some picts and video of our test.. look at the dyno sheet the top is the new muffler (green line), the middle is the megaphone (Red line), and the bottom is the old muffler ( blue line)

Test results, Pack your muffler with new packing its the cheapest HP your going to pick up.

A lot of great information there!  Thanks for sharing.  Can you post pics of the old and new mufflers?  Is the quiet one the same as the really large quiet one in my pics?  Exhaust work seems to as much art as it is science.

The megaphone exhaust sounds pretty nice.

Full disclosure, the new "SR3 Custom Exhaust" sound file was meant to get a few laughs.  It's actually from the best sounding car ever built.  A 1955 BRM V16 pulling to 14,000 rpm.  🙂

Happy Holidays!  It's been almost a month, thought I would check in, did  they figure out the oil pressure issue?

@crit

Yes just found out this week.  The main bearings were heavily worn and the oil pump was scored.  Engine is being rebuilt now.  GDU is already done.  It's going to be an expensive off season this year.  Will be worth it though as we should be able to go a couple of seasons and not have to worry about it.

Can't wait to get the car back.  Going through withdrawal already.  The wife does like parking in the garage again though.  🙂

@trakmnky

Did they give you an approx cost of the engine rebuild? Just trying to get an idea for when it comes time for my rebuild.
