Gear Indicator Display
Does anyone have a separate gear indicator installed (other than the AIM). I am finding it distracting to look to my right to check the gear I am in when entering corners I would like to install something like on the dash just above the steering wheel so I can just glance down. There is velcro on my dash in that location so I assume there was one in the car at some point in time. Are they easy to install? Any recos on a product?
Great question John, - I'll be interested in the answer as well (and my car also has the strategically located velcro - may be factory option :-))
There are a couple of companies that make them. Radical uses the ones made by Geartronics. I am not sure how they are installed on the newer cars by on Chassis 485 (2010 SR3 RS) there was a box mounted on the side of the cockpit that controlled the display that can be mounted anywhere on the dashboard. The newer versions have a larger display then the one in my car.
The Prosport I owned had a GIPro indicator like the one you showed the link to but it wasn't working when I got the car and I couldn't get it to work. I think Forum member @crit went through this last year and went with the GIPro system. I think I remember him saying that if he did it again he would have spent the extra to get the Geartronics system. Hopefully he will add to this conversation.
Here are a couple of pictures of the Geartronics system in SR300485. In the picture of the sidewall it is the smaller black box that says Geartronics.
Hi All, as Charley mentioned, I installed the Healtech GIpro. if I was to do it again, I would definitely go with the geartronics. The price is about the same and I would prefer a larger display. Also the geartronics displays N for neutral while the healtech displays 0
I also was unable to keep the factory green neutral light in the system as it wouldn't allow the healtech to even turn on.
Here is a pic. I mounted it next to the tach
Thank you both. As always, super helpful!!!
@crit I assume this is the one you are referring to

@johnannz, not that one, this is the one you want. Make sure to email them so they can put the right connectors on before you order it. They were very helpful when I wrote them.
@azwcat, it should be but depends on your current setup. Please consult with geartronics to confirm that they can make a plug and play setup for you.
FYI I ordered the shift indicator from Geartronics. I will post the ease of installation. Crit is correct, Geartronics/Neil was very responsive and after a couple of emails/pics the indicator was sent priority mail. So far the experience has been very positive!!
Fantastic, I am interested to hear about the installation!
Charley
@johnannz, I know there are quite a few people out there that would like to do this modification so if you could shoot some pictures during the installation with a quick write up Charley could put it in the technical section!
I confirmed it is indeed plug and play. There are a couple of variations on the SR3 that Neil will ask you about when you call. There is one connector to plug into at the gearbox and there is a sureseal power plug up in the cockpit. Very simple.
I've just installed the GIpro unit with their WSS harness in a Prosport. Since I didn't want to have to recalibrate every time I changed sprockets, and because a previous owner removed the factory wheel speed sensor, the GIpro speed sensor is set up to sense the dogs on the reverse drive.
Power and tach signal are sourced from inside the dash; I may end up punching a hole through the dash face to make this a bit neater, but for now I want to be sure the display is actually big enough (it's small...)
The WSS harness isn't long enough to reach all the way to the dash; I considered just patching the cable, but was able to source the connectors that HealTech use - they're Sumitomo MT Sealed, available from Corsa Technic ( https://www.corsa-technic.com/item.php?item_id=229 and https://www.corsa-technic.com/item.php?item_id=232)
@mikesmith, does that prosport have a Kawasaki or Suzuki engine? If Suzuki, did it not have a gear position sensor you could hook up the Healtech to?
