Washer help please!
Do yall have a spec and/or source for buying replacement rubber insert washers for the GDU top inlet and side level plug? They appears to be same size. I measured 28mm OD x 22mm ID x ~17mm rubber ID. I have been to Auto parts store and Ace, no luck.
@raider89 - Google “dowty washer” - should be able to get them in a lot of places.
I am having trouble matching the correct size. Looks exactly like the washer on the right in Dan's picture above. The outer diameter matches a 1/2 BSP, but the dimensions of the rubber part as well as the thickness of the outer aluminum ring are both different.
Can someone point me to the correct part? I'm assuming this is not a special Radical specific part?
ANHoseFittings.com may have a replacement seal, but I don't what size is correct for these fittings.
edit: Based on measurement of the actual washer, the fitting, and the specs given for this part, I would say we need the 1/2 BSP/M20 size which is Part # HWA-4020.
(Note: this is for the top fill fitting; I am unsure whether this is the same for the bottom drain fitting)
Specifications:
Primary Material Zinc-plated steel
Finish Plain
Color Natural
Thickness 1.5mm
Outer Diameter (O.D.) 28mm
Inner Diameter (I.D.) .78" (20mm)
Minimum Operating Temperature -40°F (-40°C)
Maximum Operating Temperature 302°F (150°C)
Manufacturer RaceFlux
They are identical sized washers on top return oil line and side level plug.
@davidf Is your car a SR3 XX? Once you have ordered and received, please confirm their fitting properly. I had ordered a couple different ones myself and although diameters were good, the washer thicknesses were alarming. I would love to have direct replacement of factory washers. With that being said, they dont need replaced every time as I have not experienced any leaks with repeated fitting removals.
@raider89 .... I can confirm that the top sealing washer (oil return fitting from the cooler) can be reused many times - probably for the life of the GDU between rebuilds. Because it's on the top of the GDU and isn't below the normal oil level it wont leak as long as there isn't any visible damage to the sealing rubber in the 'dowty washer'
I replace the bottom sealing washer every oil change. Probably over-kill, but it's obviously constantly below the oil level and it's not worth the risk of a small oil leak on the clean diffuser.
@raider89 It looks like these sealing washers that ANHoseFittings.com sells are an exact replacement for the GDU fittings that Radical uses. Described and linked above.
Awesome, thanks for the legwork David, I just order some myself.
