1340 to 1500 Conversion
What does it take to convert, is it recommended or not worth it?
Hi @cool-stuff, There is a lot that you need to change to make the conversion. Here is a list of the major parts that get changed:
1) Crank shaft ($$$)
2) Connecting rods
3) I can’t Remember if the pistons need to be changed?
4) The gears in the transmission get upgraded to HD gears
5) The engine cases need to be modified to accommodate the larger rotational assembly. (The case modification isn’t as big of a deal as it sounds)
6) If your car is currently a 12 volt car you need to convert it to a 24v system which includes adding a second battery in the side pod, running battery wiring from the dash to the engine for the new battery, and a charger to charge the new battery.
Hopefully others will chime in on the items that I missed.

i should have been more clear, the car is a 2010 SR3 with a 1340, and I have a short stroke 1500 brand new and wanted to know what all I needed to replace the 1340 with the 1500?
@cool-stuff, oh, that is a lot easier. If your car is a 12v car it needs to be changed to a 24v system (if it isn’t already a 24v var). You will also have to change to the larger throttle bodies used on the 1500s, and get the ECU reflashed with the 1500 maps. I have attached an image showing the 24v setup.
I hope this helps,
Charley
The new 1500 already has the fuel injection on it, so I assume that includes the throttle bodies?
@cool-stuff, Then you should just need to convert to a 24v system and have the ECU reflashed by a Radical Dealer. I know that Spring Mountain has the capability to do the re-flash in house but I think most of the other dealers need to send it to SM or back to the factory.
