dual battery conversion

I did a search and all I seam to find was about battery tenders. the new to me 2005 SR3 1500cc has a single battery. I need to replace the battery the car has been sitting on the tender for a few months from the time I bought it but the battery goes flat very quickly after I unplug the tender. has anyone done the dual battery conversion ? is there a parts list of what's needed ? would I need to totally remove and replace the complete charging system to charge both batteries?
