Factory Graphics - Custom Graphics - PPF
It is interesting to see all the different car graphics on these cars. For my build, I have decided to just start with a base color and factory graphics. But this leads me to a couple of questions.
Everyone pretty much does custom graphics on new cars, right?
Does everyone PPF their cars? If so, is this after the custom graphics are applied?
For those like me with only the standard factory graphics, how did you add or change the graphics?
Also curious, what is the norm relative to car numbers, are those integrated into the custom graphics or using the factory number decals e.g., Blue Marble?
Thanks,
Phil
@raider89 Looks great Dan! Did you PPF it as well? Under/over the graphics?
No, am unclear of purpose of PPF or effectiveness. Is it primarily to make cleanup easier or does it help prevent spider cracking of the gelcoat over time? If just cleanup, I have been pleasantly surprised how well the car's factory finish releases rubber marks, etc during post weekend cleanup.
The primary purposes of PPF is to protect the factory paint from being chipped. Cleanup of race rubber is not that different than paint unless the PPF is covered with a ceramic coating which then becomes easier.
@sr10formetoo, Which Standard design are you currently going with? The design that RNW usually uses looks fantastic in person. The new SR10 design also looks great. The factory wrap cost several thousand dollars, so if you plan to do a custom wrap on your car I would work with Radical and have them do it for you. They do very high quality wraps and the company that does them (The Sign Team) has done all of the factory wraps for so many years I don't think anyone does it better. Regarding PPF, I have had a couple of cars that previous owners had installed PPF on the front. The area that gets the most abuse on these cars is the lower ~6" on the very front of the car. The PPF on my cars did a very good job protecting these areas from stone damage but it didn't make much of a difference on the rest of the nose, but it doesn't help with spider cracks. The only down side to the PPF is that it does turn yellow in time.

Charley - I considered the factory graphics package but I actually prefer just a solid color with the std factory graphics to start with. Only graphics will be SR10 each side of the roll hoop and Radical on the engine scoop. I will then PPF all the leading edges - splitter, hood, front fenders. I have had many cars wrapped with the new films like Xpel Ultimate Plus and they did not yellow.
After I have had the car for a while, I will consider either some custom graphics, which I have yet to visualize or add decals of the key OEM component suppliers. In the end it will be pretty simple nothing busy. Some of the graphics I have seen from the factory are a bit too busy for me. I can appreciate them but they are not something that cause me to add it to my spec.
For example, your car has a nice clean look to it. Nothing busy, just white with a nice contrast with the bright green. That would be the level of graphics that I would consider but at the outset leave it plain.
@sr10formetoo, that will be really nice. Feel free to add RSR logos. 😀 here is one example on Victors car.
@lunatic Tell us about the trailer setup. Looks like a BMW X5. The trailer looks trick, awning and all, brand? Love the doggy bed, in the shade. Good looking pooch.
Just an idea, but if you keep your existing layout and just put some white filler stripes inside your gray wide stripes, it may look pretty trick.
@sr10formetoo hehe thanks!
doggy is a english staffordshire bullterier. He is with us everywhere🤣
the trailer is a brian james TR4, specially made for my car. I have aircompressor, tools, wheels, camping gear, winch so on. Basicly all i need for a full weekend of fun, and all i need to do is to attach it and go;). The white one was a 30d x5, now
i have a X5m.. i just miss the bangs and power🤣🤣
.
@lunatic That is absolutely the perfect setup. And the bullterrier, well, he/she is just regal. The ultimate track day combination! What is the length of the trailer, the height of the lift gate, the length of boards, and how high do you jack up the front of the trailer to load?
this trailer has a tilt, so i just tilt it up and the boards are just 2x1 meters. Height of the gate im not sure but dim. Inside is 2.16meters wide, 2.20 tall and avout 5.5meter long fra gate til the front wall.. - the wheels offc.
3tonn capacity! This trailers have loads of solutions with toolboxes and such..
I love the floor boxes! Planning to make on mine
with my car that is about 7cm from the ground avsolutely no reason to do anything else when loading.. rolls right in with good clearance as long as the ground is level
