Quick question, doing my first oil change and know the sequence for getting the correct level however I am unsure on how the position the dipstick.

Is this the correct way to use the dipstick, and I assume the oil level should be between the two notches correct?

Feel stooopid asking this....

G'day Josh,

Yes - correct in both cases.

Interestingly my dipstick has different 'notch' positions to yours which I think makes it more obvious.

Mine has the notches on the top two blue marks in your picture, and an engraved/scribed line where your lower notch is.  On mine I usually aim for the oil level to be between the two notches, and I use the lower line as an absolute minimum level marker. (I've never run that low).

My car will push any oil that is near the top notch into the oil catch can, so it seems to "purge" itself if the level is above half way between the notches... so now I aim for the lower notch.

Hope this helps

@rjbender Awesome, thanks for the feedback and the tip. Mine does the same thing if it's too full as I found out the hard way after buying the car (from my local radical dealer) and going straight to the track. It puked a bunch of oil into the catch can so fast the catch can couldn't diffuse the bubbles fast enough and made a nice mess in my engine bay. 🤷
