Idling and tuning
1. There is a noise
that comes and goes at idle and I realize internet diagnosis will probably be impossible but I'd like to have your guys opinion on where to start looking.
2. There is a local technician here that has worked on a few radicals in the past who said to me that you're able to tune the engine with a fuel pressure regulator if you have a wide band sensor available. Is this Hocus pocus magic?
Hard to tell from the video if the engine is stumbling or if that noise is coming from the clutch, I would recommend pushing the clutch in and putting the car in gear and with it in gear and the clutch in see if the noise is still there. Hoping there’s somebody else that might be able to recognize the noise better. In regarding to tuning with the fuel pressure regulator, The radical fuel injection system on the first gen cars keeps a constant fuel pressure whether at idle or at WOT as there is no vacuum line hooked up to the FPR. You can richen or lean the engine with an adjustable FPR but it will adjust the fuel across the entire RPM range. Your engine has an OEM Suzuki ECU so it should be able to be tuned with a power commander.
I'll try that clutch suggestion to see if it separates the two.
Power Commander eh, guess I have some more reading to do 🙂
@meatman, how about clutch in and in gear? Does the noise disappear?
@meatman, my guess is and it might be off is possibly clutch basket/clutch play. Might be worth draining the oil and removing the clutch cover and inspecting.
It sounds as if clutch inspection is needed. Keep in mind, RPE uses some parts that are not standard and for that reason, you may need qualified help.
Another point regarding clutch noise and poor idle is that yes, a poor flowing injector as well as out of synch throttles bodies, air leak etc. Can and will make basket noise substantially louder at idle.
