Load vs Run Time for Service Intervals
I know this question has been asked about engine rebuilds but what do you guys do relative to the shorter service interval maintenance (oil, filter & drive shaft)? I'll be going to the track next week and have 4.9 hours run time and 2.6 hours load time on my new SR10. I anticipate after 2 days I will be at 6.7 hours run time and 4.5 hours load time.
The service interval is 6 hours so I'll be a little over on run time but not load time. Should I take care of it before going to the track or do it after?
Hi Clark (@clark-darrah), I don’t have any first hand experience with the SR 10 but I can tell you that with the 1500 in my SR3 I always had an oil analysis done at every oil change and the results always came back saying that the engine had plenty of life and change intervals could be extended. I pushed my intervals out to 10 hours with good results. The oil reports stil said I could extend further but I am conservative and kept it at 10 hours.
Hi Clark. I plan to be at VIR next week also with my SR3. Looks like we could see some rain. I'll be in one of the pit lane garages -- let me know if I can help you with anything. See you soon.
Thanks, Charley. That's kind of what I figured. I don't mind doing the work but also don't want to unnecessarily turn 6 hour maintenance intervals into essentially 4 hour intervals.
David - I'll definitely come by. Hopefully the rain holds off!
I have gotten into habit of changing engine oil and GDU every other HPDE weekend (4 track days with 4 sessions each). Depending on the weekends, rain, missed sessions, etc - this can possible extend to 3 weekends. I used to do the same on my Porsche race car. Personally, I think it is excessive as fluids look almost new and as Charley said, test that way as well.
