One of the great things about Radicals (~2010 and newer) is that they store a tremendous amount of very useful data.  There are two places where the data is stored and a different download cable is required for each.

The Life ECU stores the a lot of very useful engine data.  This data can be downloaded and emailed to a certified Radical engine facility for analysis and trouble shooting.  It is a good practice to download this data after every track weekend so that you have a history of how your engine is performing.

The Aim dash paired with a GPS antenna records a tremendous amount of performance data that can be analysed using the Aim software.

There are two data download cables that look very similar but are not interchangeable.  To download the data from the Life ECU you should be using the cable on the right side of this picture.  It has a round plug on one side and a network connector (looks like a big phone plug) on the other side.  The port can be in different locations on the car, but on most SR3RS (Gen 2 ) cars it is on the right hand sidewall of the cockpit. on most SR3 RSX (Gen 3) cars it is on the dash near the switches.

The cable show in the middle of the picture is used to download AiM data and has a smaller round plug on one end and a USB connection on the other side.  The data port for this cord is often on the right hand side of the dash.  The cable on the left can be used to connect directly to the side of the Aim Pista dashes in the RS (Gen 2) cars.  The MXL 2 dashes in the RSX (Gen 3) cars have the capability to download information with bluetooth.

Charley,

Great post and explanation on the cables! The amount of information that is stored between the dash and ECU is awesome and is an excellent tool to become a better driver!

I bought a set from Team Stradale for

~$100 for AIM Download Cable

~$175 for LIFE ECU Download Cable

I cannot wait to hit the track this year and compare my times/laps to last year with all this info!
