New Owner! SR3 #696
Hello everyone,
I picked up my 2012 SR3 Through Spring Mountain last summer and am finally ready to share some photos, I am located in Northeast Ohio. I had it out last fall at Nelson Ledges for a 'Get to know me' and shakedown day to see what I wanted to tackle over the upcoming winter. Coming from a karting background and 20+ years of tracking a Caterham 7 this really felt like both a massive step up the evolutionary ladder while at the same time, very familiar.
In all honesty, I was really concerned that I may have bitten off more than I can chew when I made the deal on the car. Would this car scare the bejezzus out of me? Should a 50+ year old man who likes to think he is closer to 25 than 75 (even though his mirror tells him the latter....) even be hustling one of these things around a track? For two months I had that pit in my stomach wondering if I made a poor choice - it took all of three turns on that first lap to know that I made the right one. The sound, the feel, and the sheer effortless speed was so worth the months of anxiety that preceded it. To put it simply; I am hooked!
Over the winter I stripped the car down and focused mainly on the bodywork, which was pretty worn and beat up from that Nevada desert environment it was from. I contemplated simply replacing every fiberglass part from the beltline down but instead took the long road and rebuilt the splitter, diffuser and sidepods and wheel wells as needed. I re-gelcoated the entire bodywork to get a uniform color and after polishing it all out, added the vinyl wrap with the help of my friend in the business. My friend also perfectly recreated the SR3 logo, the RADICAL logo and the POWERED BY PRE logo as I couldn't find anyone with them for sale. He is quite the perfectionist and they were indistinguishable from the ones I pulled off the car for him to use. I had him make multiple sets of the three should any fellow owners have a need for them.
I'm looking forward to building my experience with this car and sharing the fun with my like-minded friends, and will certainly be chiming in with the inevitable questions that will come with miles and trials.
Thanks! Mike Rohaley (Mentor, OH)
