Hello everyone! I'm the new owner of PR6 #0003. I bought it in May from a fellow who hadn't run it in four years. Brought it home to find that the head and block are cracked.

My plans are to run it in SCCA P2 and NASA SU --- hope to do it yet this year.

I've gotten some great advice from Robert Burgess of Radical Canada, who let me drive his SR3 a few years ago for this article I wrote:

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/first-drives/reviews/a25057/the-radical-sr3-is-genuinely-addictive-on-track/

This is my early list of what the car needs, and I'm listening to any and all advice on advice on how to do these things affordably:

* Fuel cell to run 45m races --- pretty sure it's still using the 2006 OEM one

* Head protection per NASA CCR (I'm sourcing this from Robert)

* New engine!

* Rebuild carbs

* Belts

* Fire system

* A wider seat , if I can figure one out --- I can sit in the current one but it's really unpleasant and the mandatory 10 second evacuation is likely to be painful.

For 2021 I'd like to do the following:

* Up-to-date integrated dash, something like the Motec or AIM systems I have in my other cars

* Proper fitted seat

* Investigate trying to make a little more power

About me, if anyone cares: I've been club racing since 2006. I drove briefly with Compass360 in Grand-Am and I had a nice PWC race at the Glen in 2018 with my Accord. I'm a Scorpio, I like long walks on the beach and racing out of class with Spec Miatas. I wrote for Road&Track from 2013-2019 and now run Hagerty's digital operations, which will have a surprising and entirely inappropriate amount of Radical coverage in the years to come.

My goal is to see if I can learn to drive this car well; if I can, then I will give it to my son (who is 11 now and racing karts) and try to save up for an SR8.

This is a great forum and I've already learned so much just from lurking. If I'd known the engine was bust on this car I might have bought something else but I'm absolutely prepared to throw good money after bad and bring this little single-seater back to the track!

Welcome Jack (@jackbaruth)!  It looks like your car is in fantastic shape. The engine issue just gives you an opportunity to build it the way you want it.  🙂  You have a fantastic car there and I am looking forward to watching as your car build progresses.  You should consider posting up the parts you need in the "Parts Wanted" section of the Forum because you would be surprised what gold people have laying in their garages.  For example, I believe John(@parsonsj) has an Aim Dash that he is selling.  And I know of another person that is thinking about selling his k7 1500.  The engine is ready for a rebuild but it would be a great time to add the extra power you mentioned you are looking for.  You may have heard that they PR6's with the 1500s have been given the nic-name "Devil Child" because they are so fast. 🙂

I enjoyed reading your SR3 article and am looking forward to reading any new ones you publish.  If you would like to team up on some articles please feel free to contact me.  Also, my friend Phil Abbott who started Radical has a new car company called Revolution and I understand the first one is coming to the U.S. very soon so you may want to consider doing an article on that.

Charley

Jack,

Glad to see you joined the Radical club! Amazing cars and I bet your smile will be as big as mine when you drive yours on track for the first time!

You hit it spot on about this forum. So much information and everyone is so helpful! I don't think I could own a Radical without this forum and everyone's help. Correct that, I could but wouldn't be able to afford to race/drive it haha!

Excited to follow your progress!

@jackbaruth

Welcome Jack, congratulations on the car.

your idea is sound,

on your 45 min sessions, the chain might need lubrication, on my SR1, I use 30 min as a rule, clean and lubed properly, 45 might be possible. Radical UK might have some better data.
I might have a new rear sprocket 46t, for the non-reversing diff if you want it. (or anyone else)
