How many use custom seat inserts and where do you have them made?
@crit - I agree with Charley.... that looks great.
Is your car an RSX or an earlier model? ( not sure I’ve seen it without the cover!😆)
@rjbender, it’s a 2004 Supersport. Here’s some pics from my restoration: https://radicalsportscarregistry.com/radicalforum/sr3-specific-discussions/body-off-cosmetic-restoration-and-complete-inspection-of-my-sr3/#post-3192
@crit - Thanks Crit! - looks like a great car - good resto!
I just went through the process of creating my own seat insert using the BSCI foam kit. Altogether, it took me 5 hours with a friend helping for the first 2.
The process is pretty simple and went pretty much as described in the Youtube videos I watched. The end result was not perfect, but very good and will serve its purpose nicely. I'll just note some observations for others wanting to do this.
- I bought the Large kit and it turned out to be a good size. A taller person might be able to do a Medium kit, but there is not much harm in having extra material/foam.
- I was able to get a lot of foam behind me so that my reach to the pedals and steering wheel are correct. This is easily done by letting the foam expand behind you and pushing back into the right position while it is hot and viscous. It is more difficult if you want extra foam underneath you. The liquid pushes out once you set your weight down, so if I did this again, I might try to wait an extra 30 seconds or 1 min before putting all of my weight down. The right way to do this might be to use a thicker foam insert or possibly double them up inside the bag.
- The sides in front of my hips were also quite thin. I'm not sure what can be done about that. I think this part could just be cut out and discarded. I may peel back the cloth and do it in the next couple of days. It's so thin that it is bending inward a bit.
- There was a decent amount of foam that expanded into the sides of the bag by my legs that was just wasted. Probably some of the extra bag material on the sides could be taped up to keep the foam from going there.
Overall, it's a fun project. Cutting the foam with the electric knife was strangely satisfying!
