I just received my 1500 refresh back from Spring Mountain today.  Inside is a memo that says "This engine has been fitted with the updated input shaft.  This engine MUST now be run with MOTUL 300V 4T 15w-60 engine oil.  Failure to run 15W-60 oil will result in engine damage or failure."

Okay.  I guess I need to use up my 15w-50 in my other engine.

I wonder if this 15/60 is what I should be using in my older engine?

I asked Spring Mountain 1) if the upgrade and new oil spec extends the service interval and 2) whether 15W-60 would benefit engines without the input shaft upgrade.

Answer is "no" on 1) -- service interval remains the same.

Answer on 2) is that other engines can use 15W-60 Motul 300V 4T engine oil, but they do not know whether or not it is a better choice.

Interesting.  This contradicts the service bulletin I got with my engine.  I wonder if SM's statement on service interval is their own recommendation or if RPE has revised their guidance?
