I broke the left side half shaft this weekend.  Not sure if I have the standard or heavy duty units in my car.  Does anyone have pictures of the two or know how to tell the difference?  Car is 2014 SR3 with 1500.  There were two of us in the car.

How often is everyone breaking one?  Is this something we should keep a spare for?  In my SRF3 I kept a spare as it wasn't uncommon to break one.  If you dropped a tire and then were in the throttle when it came back on track there was a good chance it would break.

This time I was coming out of a corner (wasn't on the rumbles) and just starting down a straight when it let go.  The shaft broke right at the cv joint where the shaft starts to get bigger?  Seems like an odd place for it to go.

Has anyone broken one of the heavy duty half shafts yet?  Wondering if this is something I should have a spare of.

Here is a picture of a standard shaft. I will dig around and see if I can find a picture of a HD shaft.  I never broke a Shafer which might mean I’m not very fast 😉

I'll bet you're plenty fast!  More likely just a little smoother than me!  🙂

I'm always two up so the car is constantly pushing 350lbs or so which might be the reason.  Appreciate the pic.  Hopefully it's easy to tell the different between the two.  If I have the standard ones I'd feel better about breaking one.

@trakmnky, I just found a deal on a used HD axle if you are interested.  I don't know the price yet, but I believe it will be about 50% of a new one. Here is a picture of it before it was cleaned up.
