Hi all, my gear indicator on my gen 1 1500cc carbureted SR3 doesn't work. The green nuetral light comes on when the engine is running and it is in nuetral but the gear indicator is blank no matter what gear i am running in. Bad sender behind the clutch basket? Should I track down the connector and look at resistance? Not sure where to start. Thanks! Couldn't find a wiring diagram for the carbureted SR3

@crit , is your issue with the gear indication on the dash or on a stand alone gear indicator?

gear indicator on the OEM dash, I'm open to installing an aftermarket one if it's possible

Also the speed MPH doesn’t work.

@crit , Unfortunately I don't have a wiring diagram that shows the gear position wiring for your car.  I would recommend starting by checking the connectors and wiring at the gear position sensor at the engine and then see if you can determine the wire colors so you can check that connection at the dash, and the wire run up to the dash.  Keep in mind that the dashs are known to fail, so it could potentially be a dash issue

Here are a few pictures that may be helpful.  The blue arrow  shows where the Gear position sensor wires exit the engine case and the green arrow show the plug that should be checked.

Also, you may want to consider adding a Geartronics gear indicator (red arrow).  They are large and bright and easier to see than the dash.

The MPH not working could be an issue with the wheel speed sensor.  This wiring diagram isn't specifically for your car but it my be close enough to be helpful.

Hi Charley, thank you so much for all the great info.  I had to work on house projects today so tomorrow after work I plan to check the wiring.

I am with Charlie on this, I think it is a dash/reading issue.

The same sensor gives gear and neutral so if neutral is working I do not think it is a sensor problem.

Your best option maybe to get a Geartronics gear display.

I ordered a Healtech Gear indicator: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0063F377Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If it doesn’t work I’ll likely have to get the geartronics but was quoted $475 for the geartronics.

I tested the Healtech Gear position indicator yesterday, unfortunately it was not plug and play with the radical but I was able to get it to work. The wiring on the radical side of the harness shorts out gear indicator,  however I was able to get it to work if I left the radical section of the harness unplugged completely  and just plugged the gear indicator into the Suzuki gear position sensor harness  end it seems to work perfectly. The only thing I lose by this is not having the green neutral light come on on the radical Dash  which isn’t that big of a deal because the Healtech gear indicator reads zero when the car is in neutral and also the green neutral light on the radical dash was finicky and sometimes would take a while to come on even when the car was in neutral.  I called radical in the UK and have left multiple messages  as well as emails and nobody has responded to me  about a wiring diagram for the car.

Radical UK sent me the wiring diagram for the carbureted SR3. Here it is, Charley feel free to upload it to the technical section.

Hi,  I came across this while trawling the internet to find a solution to my issue!

I think the SR3 you are discussing has a Suzuki Hayabusa engine? I also have a car with a Hayabusa engine and MBE ECU being built (Spire GTR) and I'm ordering a Healtech gear indicator for it.  I was worried that (with the timing retardation eliminator function) the Healtech sensor would foul the signal to the MBE ECU.

Can I just confirm please, you are connecting up the Healtech to the gear position switch on the engine, and leaving both the connectors to the ECU loom and the second Healtech connector (which they expect you to connect to the stock suzuki loom) disconnected?  Presumably you have still connected up the 12v ignition live feed to the Healtech?

No issues with the ECU not receiving a gear position signal from the sensor?

Many thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy, the NBE ecu doesn't use the gear signal input and also the TRE function can be disabled on the healtech but it doesn't really matter since nthe ECU doesn't use the gear position sensor. In regards to wiring, hook up switched 12v to the loose red wire  on the healtech, on the output connector the healtech I cut off the connector and hooked the black wire to a ground, the other two wires aren't used and on the car side harness that would normally hook into the Suzuki gear position indicator it is left disconnected. Feel free to write with any further questions.

Forgot to tag you just in case you didn’t subscribe.  BTW, if you didn’t already buy the healtech, please look into getting a Geartronics instead. If I would have researched more I would have bought the Geartronics indicator instead. The healtech works great but it is quite small as it is designed for a small bike dash. Also when in neutral, the healtech displays O while the the Geartronics displays N. The price is very similar, the geartronics might be 20 or so dollars more. The support team at Geartronics is first rate as I have their pneumatic shifter system installed and they sent me diagrams and answered questions right away.
