How to hook up aftermarket tachometer?
Carbureted SR3 with MBE ignition, I'm looking at the wiring diagram and trying to figure out where to wire in an aftermarket tachometer. It shows there is a connector for a RPM pickup/Data logger. Not sure where this connector is located and if it would work to hook up an aftermarket tach.
I think the diagram you maybe looking at is for the fuel injection?
Best place to pick up the RPM signal would be from one of the coil pack wires.
I'm looking at the carbureted version, I actually called radical and they sent me the carb wiring diagram which Charley just added to the library. All the wires going to the coil pack are white. I was hoping that somebody has hooked up an aftermarket Data logger or tachometer and was wondering where they got the signal. I'm thinking of tapping in to the tachometer dash wire. I have the earlier radical dash, not the AIM MXL2.
Figured it out and got it installed, looks pretty good in my opinion 🙂
For someone looking to install an aftermarket tach, tap into the radical dash wiring harness and use the power and ground and tach inputs as these signals are the cleanest. The previous owner hooked a racepak g2x tach/data logger up to the back of the MBE/ECU at the firewall and the digital tach bounces all over and is basically un-useable. Also, if you are installing an aftermarket tach it needs to be able to have an adjustment for a 2 cylinder pulse setting. For some reason, the signal going to the radical dash reads correctly at this setting for aftermarket tachs.
Looks great and glad you got sorted!
I imagine the two cycle bit will be down to the engine running a wasted spark.
