Crank sensor or wiring from it to the ECU.

Look in other channels, see if there are dips, maybe the ECU is cutting out. But my bet is the crank sensor/circuit.

Agree with the above.

Most likely crank sensor itself if damaged or has debris stuck to the sensor - I seem to recall you had a problem with the flywheel/starter recently? Could be debris from that.

Would also be worth checking the crank sensor to loom plug, make sure it is clipped together and all the pins are located in the plug.

I replaced the starter , flywheel , and sensor previously

I have replaced the plug connector for the sensor as I found this ......

at the time the sensor was replaced it wasn’t me personally that plugged it in or I would have replaced the plug . As soon as I put my hand on the plug the wire came out of it .

Must be flexing when driving and breaking contact .

When i I look at the data of the crank sensor , the tps also follows the same pattern .... that’s throwing me a bit

Ah ok, maybe another issue then.

What is your gear voltage doing? Wheel speed?

I think it might be a problem with a sensor that is affecting the joint 5V feed.

Check your wheel speed for me please? The end of the sensor is often damaged and will cause this.

Are the only channels you have available? That's a very short config. Doesnt look like you have wheel speed or gear voltage - although maybe this car is geartronics paddle shift?

There are a number of sensors that all share the same 5V feed so I would guess that one of them is shorting out/playing up which is what is causing your TPS and crank sensor issue.

Start with the wheel speed sensor, it will be on one the front uprights. Unplug it and try again.

@rlm-dan

Thanks for the help so far .

Im in the geartronics gearshift it’s a early car .

The wheel speed sensor is disconnected .

Looking at all data the cranks sensor looks to be the problem , the sensor is new but that connector was crap . Looked to be only hanging on by a strand .

Ive replaced the plug connector with a proper one

No worries, hopefully that sorts it out.

Does look like a wiring/sensor with the fact it was upsetting other sensors.

Dan is right about the 5v “ref”. Most system send a out a shared (typically) 5v dc voltage to each sensor, then the sensor will change that to something lower and send it back to the ECU as the signal. Most ECUs have a fixed amount of power for the refV circuit, so if it gets shorted to ground by bad wiring, all the sensors will suffer as they are no longer seeing the 5 volts. That’s why you look at other sensor channels, helps determine where the problem might be.

@graemed

I had a look at the other sensors and they look stable and don’t follow the same pattern so hopefully it’s the bad connector at the crank sensor . Fingers crossed

my wheel speed sensor is disconnected for some reason

I know this thread is really old, but could you explain or maybe show a picture of where the crank sensor is? I've got a similar issue but my car won't start. I assumed it was cam sensor but I didn't know the sr8 had a crank sensor too. Can you see this sensor value in the life software?

If you look on the underside of your car just behind where the oil tank/bell housing is you will see a small grommet that has a wire coming from it, this is your crank sensor.

It is a 2 wire sensor.

The value is shown as RPM in the Life data.

Feel free to download the data from your attempted starts and send it over to me, will have a look to see if I can see a reason.
