Posted by: @jasei'm thinking about getting an aim formula 3 steering wheel for my SR8
guessing it should be plug and play with the aim system factory fitted in the car?
anyone tried one? pro's and con's (besides price?)
What system is in your car? The FW3 will go on any MXx Dash except the MXL2. The operation may be slightly different on the original versus 1.2 version devices. I'm happy to help guide you on the exact details.
@rjbender It looks like the right connection. My son connected that part so I did not see him do it but he told me he just found what looked like the right pin configuration and tried it.
@johnannz - Thanks John - literally "plug and play" then!!
hi Trailbrake
im not sure what sytem is in my car, is whatever radical fitted in 2012 SR8, has smarty cam and the data logging (linial sensors suspension)
how do I tell / ID what model?
thanks
jase
Hi @jase, 2012 SR3s and SR8s came with an Aim MXL Pista dash. Please post a picture of your dash and @trailbrake or I can confirm what dash you have. Here is a picture of an AIM MXL Pista.
I hope this helps,
Charley

some cars came with the non recording MXL Strada dash, that’s what my car came with. From the outside they look the same.

hi Charley & Trailbrake
pics of my dash attached, searching google images it appears to be MXL Pista as you say (was hard to get pic of label on the back but it doesn't appear say any model?)
does that make the AIM Formula wheel plug and play or difficult? I did intend to keep the MXL dash installed and have the display on the wheel as supplementary
thank
Jase
HI @jase, You have an Aim MXL dash. If it has data logging it is a Pista and if it doesn't it is a Strada. Since your car is an SR8 it most likely is a Pista.
From taking a quick look at the wiring diagram it looks like it should be a plug and play set up. You may need a data hub also, but Matt (@trailbrake) can give you the details.

I'm not sure how to tell them apart without connecting to them. If you connect and can download data, then you have a Pista.
If you don't have the download cable, look at the harness and see if you can find the USB plug. If you find that, get a bulkhead adapter and then you don't need the more expensive cable. https://trailbrake.com/bulkhead-usb-receptacle-kit-mini-usb-719-4-pin-m/
yes I can connect and download data to pc via a cable I plug into car
i have 2 cables I can plug into car a USB cable and network type plug cable (2 different sets of data)
one from life and 1 from aim? (sorry can’t be more specific I’ve been shown how to do data download but am yet to explore)
i can’t see any hub in car but it could be hiding?
thanks

the network connector with the multi pin round connector is for the ECU (Life Racing, need their software)
the USB with the headphone style jack is for the MXL dash. There should be a port on the side of the dash with a rubber plug.
I have an AIM cable if anyone is interested.
hello I am looking for the cable to connect a computer to the life racing ECU
Hi Guys. I want to add the gear indicator too. Does this replace the input to the AIM system? Wondering if you loose the gear out of the telemetry?
@kirk - G'day Kirk,
It might depend on which car you have (and which model Hyabusa)?
I have a 2015 RSX and it was literally 'plug and play' (see my previous posts and replies from other members in this thread)
The gear indicator on the dash remains unchanged, as does the gear logging in the Life ECU.
That's probably because there are two plugs (in parallel) coming off the gear position sensor in the engines gearbox. One of them is connected into the factory loom (going to the ECU), while the other one is not connected, and it is this one that the Geartronics harness connects into.
So completely separate systems.....
