There are two places where you can plug in to the MXL. There is the one on the left side of the MXL itself that is a 3.5mm plug and then there is the DATA port that is a 5-pin plug on the dash. Does it matter which data port you use? Does one have an advantage over the other?

the 3.5 plug is the intended download port. Do you have the cable?
if not I have one.

my guess is the 5 pin is where you would connect a external USB port or a data hub.

@graemed If you have an extra one, I'll gladly use it! I'll be at HPR on Friday, September 4th.

@tommymills, As Graeme said the 3.5 plug on the side of the dash is the proper port for downloading the Aim Data.  Most Radicals also have another larger round receptacle on the dash that can also be used to download the same data.  The other plug you are seeing behind the dash is intended to plug into the back of the dash.  Radicals usually come with a beacon sensor just in front of the cockpit that gets plugged into the dash.  Most people unplug that when they connect a Smartycam or GPS antenna.  So that is likely the plug for the beacon sensor that no one ever uses.

In the attached pictures you can see the two places where the Aim Data can be collected from.  The port on the dash can be in several different locations.  The picture of the plugs shows the two types of download cables that can be used for Downloading data. The plug on the left and center are for downloading the Aim Data and the plug on the right is for downloading Life ECU data on 2010 and newer cars.

Perfect! As always, great information Charley. The 5-pin plug in my picture I believe is the AiM data cable that is typically mounted in the dash, but in this car has fallen down and was stuck up behind the MXL unit.

Hopefully I can hookup with Graeme and use his 3.5mm plug in until I can get my own.

@eugeniobolo, if your car has A Life ECU (2010+) the cord pictured above (it is on the right in the picture with the three cords) is the one you need.  You can get these from any Radical dealer and  cost ~$160.  When buying parts from Radical dealers please consider using one of the Dealers that sponsor the Registry. 🙂

You can download the Life software from the Radical website. https://www.radicalsportscars.com/technical-downloads

Can i use a generic 3.5mm plug?

I have one from another brand of logger that goes to a serial plug then a serial to usb adapter. Will this work?
