Danyel Torres Delgado from Wisko Racing / Radical Virginia just posted this picture of the new Steering wheel in the SR3XX.  That looks like quite an upgrade.  Matt (@trailbrake), can this wheel be added to a standard Radical?  It looks more advanced then the Formula steering wheel.

I'm not sure right now. I believe that works with the PDM, but I'm not positive on the details surrounding it. Time will tell as the PDM info is a bit slow being released.

Interesting. Radical are still showing the AIM Formula wheel on the RSX documentation and images. That one does look good with the full colour tft and page dial. I personally favor alcantara grip, but I'd swap my sparco for that one 😉

Can someone please explain the PDM to me? Does it replace a datalogger such as MXL or EVO4s?

Warm Regards

Mark

A PDM is a Power Distribution Module. It's like a fuse box on steriods. Instead of fuses, it's got solid state (electronic) controls for all the power  functions of the car. You can then program when they turn on and off, if they try to turn on after tripping, and so much more. It also logs how many amps something draws, so you can see if a fuel pump is starting to fail, if something shorted or pulled over current, and more.

The AiM PDM solution also includes a full data logger, so it's like a MXx Dash/Logger with a PDM combined in one. The display options as of right now (from AiM) are a 6" display based on the MXP and a new 10" display. I believe the wheel shown here is going to be available, but I do not know as AiM has not shown that to anyone yet.

Currently there is no PDM availability in the US and only a small number of units in the UK. Shipments in the US should start "soon." I have had orders in for the PDM units for over a year, so I'll have them as soon as they ship! Right now, no one has any PDM related items in the US.

It's the "modern" way to wire a race car and what Radical is moving to on the SR3 XX

Thanks - that's crystal. 👍

I was looking at updating my v1 MXL to the formula wheel/EVO4S/Smartycam HD combo after speaking to AIM at the Autosport show at the beginning of the year. Then things got...*ahem...disrupted.

It feels like if the PDM includes the data logger - it makes more sense to update to a PDM32 instead - assuming there is a compatible wheel? Would it be a worthwhile job to update the electrics in a 2013 RS?

Thanks again

To run the PDM 32 and use the data portion would be a fair amount of rewiring. You would have to take everything that is fused / on a circuit breaker and wire it to the PDM. The PDM does not come with a harness, so it would have to be designed and created, then programmed. That is a decent size project.
