SR1 How to - add brake pressure sensor
Hi guys
nice to meet you all.
I’m a racing instructor from Israel. I work with a few SR1 drivers locally.
the SR1 comes with the MXL2 system with only GPS and Accelerometer data.
I wish to add brake pressure sensor as well as a steering position sensor.
I have contacted local dealer who suggested I would by a 2,000 Euro full radical wire loom for that.
seems excessive.
is there any other way to just add analogue brake and steering sensors to the system?
if so can you direct me to the necessary components, install guide for that?
much appreciated.

Is the current MXL2 a data logging dash?
Posted by: @rlm-danIs the current MXL2 a data logging dash?
as Dan says... Check if it's a logging dash, in which case you should be able to purchase just the second part of the loom from AIM and hook up your brake sensors and steering potentiometer directly.
Hi Thank you guys for responding.
The MXL2 is a logging dash.
however I think that Radical is sending the car out with no ECU/CAN reading.
the accelerometer and GPS are integrated into the system.
Do you think just hooking up a brake sensor directly should work?
thank you

you will have to connect them to the dash, and depending on how your dash is wired in. there will be 3 wires to connect, 5v ; ground and signal. They are all available from the dash. You have to create custom sensors in RS3 and scale the accordingly. (Or you could buy X05PSA00100B38 sensors from AIM and just plug them in. You won’t need the parts with * if you use the AIM sensors)
The steering sensor is the standard AIM kart belt type attached behind the dash. The pully on the steering shaft will need to be shimmed as it is slightly larger ID than the shaft OD. But not too difficult.
thats fantastic.
thank you for taking the time and effort to respond so clearly. I appreciate that.

@graemed - G'day Graeme, Is that an air filter on the intake to your left hand side-pod? ....??
I knew someone would see that!
its just sitting there drying after cleaning, since I had a blower pointed at the rad inlet earlier. It does not live there.
@graemed - 😆 I thought you had found a novel way to keep rubber and other debris our of your radiator inlet!
I know this an old post, but if you are still on the forum…may I ask how you bled the external pressure sensors? Is it enough to crack the line where is connects to the sensor? It would seem to me that you would trap air in the sensor. I guess unless you filled it, then connected it…maybe I am over thinking it. Just curious how you did it, procedurally.
