My 2012 SR3 came with the factory SmartyCam system and although it seems to work just fine, the image quality is a bit behind the times. What is the best upgrade path to the new SmartyCam HD GP 2.2. Can any of the existing hardware be recycled? Connection harnesses, power cable? Can any of the software mappings be saved or replicated?.

Hi Tommy (@tommymills), it is hard to tell which camera you have from the picture, but I believe it is one of the Standard Definition GP cameras.  Assuming that is correct you will get a much nicer picture from the latest HD Smartycams. I believe the cable that goes from the camera to the dash is different for the HD and SD cameras, but Matt (@trailbrake.net) is our resident AIM dealer and expert can provide you with what you need.

Hey Tommy! You can certainly upgrade to the SCHD GP 2.2. Without knowing what system in your car, it's hard to know exactly what you need, but it might be as easy as just changing out the recorder, camera, and the connection cable in-between them. The 2.2 camera has an ECU bridge built in, so if you have one of those in your car, you can remove it and do it all in the camera now.
