so the car is almost ready for its first outing next Monday at Donington.

There has been one lingering problem - where on earth do i plug in the front lights?

As with almost everything else on this car, it looks like this has been changed too, or, unplugged, with the right wiring loom missing - i've no idea.

Hanging off the nose i've got a 2 pin deutsch connector. I cannot find the female connector anywhere in the cockpit.

At the front there's cables and a loom for ride height and damper sensors, which i think were unplugged and removed before i bought the car, so what's left is the wiring loom for it going back into the cockpit/PDM. At a total guess, i don't know if this is where modifications were made and i can just remove it, and plug in the lights - but what's stopping me from doing that is there's also a line going into that same connector (in the 2nd pic) feeding from the brake master cylinder area, with 'Brake SW' on it.

Has anyone seen this sort of setup before? Where should the front light LED's plug into it, and where does that in turn plug in?

@davidf maybe you could shed some....light...on this - as you have an XX.

been scratching my head on this one for a while!

I think this is going to be a Charley question or someone who knows all of the SR3 models well.  The SR3s that I have seen all use a round connector just in front of the dash and where the rear part of the nose mates up with the center section.  The way the cable is zip-tied looks like the previous owner perhaps decided to give up on the lights?

@davidf

thanks thats very helpful. I suspect you're right.

that's a shame. Looks like radical will have to tell me how to add that connector into the car's wiring loom.

Where does the lead for that female connector then lead to, under the dash - into another loom?

Hi @rojid, As David said, for an RSX or an XX there would be a round connector in the location that he showed.  For the Gen 1 and 2 cars there is a rectangular connector in the front left wheel well.

Since your car has had the wiring system replaced with a PDM system it isn't surprising that they removed the round connector.  I don't know how the wiring is hooked up with the PDM system so you would have to talk to one of the dealers about that.  I believe there is a button on your PDM pad for the headlights so that means that their should be an output from the PDM to power the lights.  You could use that output to power the lights.  There are some simple alternate options that could be used if you don't want to tie into the PDM system.  The first option is to buy a plug that will mate to the wire connector that you have and then run a power and ground wire to that. Then you would simply have to unplug that wire when your remove the nose.  With this option the lights would always be on when the power is on.  Another alternative is to wire a switch to the dash and then wire in the previously mentioned plug.  I have had a couple of older Radicals that owners swapped the factory plug out for their own plug.  Either will work, it just depends on how you want to wire it up.

@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com

i may have found the issue 😀

whether this feeds into the PDM front loom or not, i've no idea, i'll check tomorrow and follow the wire back to the source, hopefully i see it feed into that loom. then i know i can just get from radical whatever the XX front light loom is and attach it all back.

pleased to say i solved this little puzzle.

The "mode" and "fuel icon" buttons i have on my PDM pad.........are just the lights buttons you'd find on a standard XX, for DRL's and main lights.

dawned on me that RS3 would tell me what those buttons would do - and indeed its a locked radical config in the CAN menu which shows what the 6 pad buttons were set to, and they matched what's on the XX.

Lo and behold, i press the mode button, and i then get 12v running through that front lights wiring loom. Just need to buy a pair of 2 pin deutsch connectors and i'll finally have operational front lights.

Problem solved.

I guess those buttons were being used for other functions before the standard XX configs were loaded back in.
