Hello all! I just purchased a 2010 Radical 1340cc, low hoop, from a friend of mine. Excited to get some maintenance done and get it back on track. When I bought the car it was already front-half-swapped to the updated bodywork from the Gen 3 RSX; Front cover and Front splitter/diffuser are on the chassis and he had sold off the gen2 front pieces. The dashboard back is all standard gen2 stuff so the car has been running and driving with the gen3 front but gen2 wing/rear cover/lights and lower rear diffuser.

With the purchase he gave me the loose pieces he'd been collecting to complete the change.  He included a gen3 rear diffuser and the gen3 rear light section fiberglass. After poking around on it for a few days im weighing my options on finishing the body work update. I'm leaning towards 'Yes'- after all I'm halfway there. Also from what I've been reading it seems there's some benefits to the aero efficiency on the updated bodywork along with some weight savings of the carbon wing and overall looks. Not to mention the gen2 fiberglass currently on the car has seen better days and would need some clip and latch repair if I were going to leave it.

has anyone successfully done this before? Seems to me the remaining parts I would need are-

-gen3 RSX rear wing and uprights

-gen3 RSX rear chassis bracket/wing mount

-gen3 RSX engine cover

-gen3 RSX taillight(s)

-gen3 RSX Lifeline rainlight

probably some other misc bushings, clips, brackets?

I imagine i'll also need to pin out and rewire some of the rear brake lights and such but that's really no big deal. Am I missing anything major? is there a know parts list that has been developed for this? is this a stupid idea?

Thanks for the input, New to this chassis (have driven a few of them before but this is my first time owning one) car will only be used for TT and HPDE days

Hi Willem (@illwillem) welcome!  What chassis number car do you have?  I haven’t done the change over but it sounds like you have the parts list about right.  You could likely modify your current tail light harness to be used with the new lights.  If you contact one of the Radical dealers they can help you get all of the needed parts.  Jonathan (@GroupARacing) at Radical New Your has a used engine cover available at a good discount and he would be a good source for the other parts that you need.

Thank you Charley! Car number is 00563 I believe that you actually owned this car at one point and Sold it to Scott, who I bought it from.

Thanks for the lead on the engine cover!

I'm trying to find a used market value on the gen2 rear cover and wing If I were to list them for sale to recoup some of the cost but cant really find anything on the market to based it on. Any ideas what those pieces will go for if I were to list

PXL 20220510 025829618
PXL 20220510 033232069

?

Yes, I know that car well.  🙂 When you described it I was wondering if it was 563.  I am a little surprised that Scott sold it already.

Pricing on the rear body is highly dependent on condition and how quickly you want to sell it.  I would say the range is between roughly $500 and $1,500.  If I remember correctly I sold the original nose on that car (for Scott) for about $500.  You can likely get ~100 to $500 for the wing support.  I don’t know about the wing.  The Aluminum wings are not in great demand. So perhaps $50 to $150.  Where are you located?

Im down in Los Angeles. Yeah Scott had his eye on something else he wanted to own and drive so along with the Radical he sold a truck/trailer, couple BMW's and a Porsche. I'd expressed interest in picking up  a Radical after driving his when he owned it, so he called me first when he was considering selling it and I couldn't say no.

Thanks for the ballpark figures on the bodywork- that is in about the range I expected. I spoke with Spring Mountain in regards to the parts id need and it seems that almost all of it, aside from the used engine cover, is on a pretty significant back order. After starting some of the fiberglass and gel-coat repairs and weighing the fiberglass parts (heavy!) it got me considering fabricating a unique rear clam and wing mount design. I'm no stranger to composites and it seems like it may be a fun, summer project to make this thing go faster.  I figure I can always finish the body swap in the future if I so choose.

Thanks again for your help Charley
