Hello All-

Getting the oil level correct seems to be quite a process! Now another issue.

So I set the level as required, warm motor to over 60c, hold at 4K RPM for 5 seconds to scavenge, turn off and check. Level was at top mark on dipstick.

I take the car out for a rip, after a half mile suddenly it doesn't rev freely, low oil pressure flashing on and off. I recheck the level and nothing on the dipstick!

I add a quart, barely on the stick. Now I'm waiting for more oil.

There are no leaks, nothing in the catch can, not smoking. Is it possible the oil lines/cooler burped after driving the car around some corners? Did the low pressure cause the motor to slow revs, limp mode? I'm at a loss.

Any input would be appreciated, hard to get contact from Radical directly.

Thank you!

That's a real puzzler. I wonder if the RXC has an oil thermostat that routes oil past the cooler until it's fully warmed up? If you just changed the oil and drained the cooler, that could explain that behavior.

As far as if the ECU has a limp mode to keep engine revs down with low oil pressure, I'd rate that as quite possible.

One other thing to check is the radiator fluid. Make sure the oil didn't end up in the coolant. The coolant will have a "milkshake" look to it if that's what's going on.

Good luck, and let us know if you find anything.

Thank you John.

Yes checked the coolant, nothing noted there.

I was advised maybe the oil pump was not scavenging properly. Do you know if it is an engine out job to replace the oil pump?

@bill-snead Hi Bill,

It's not an engine-out procedure on the SR8, and is something I've done many times. But I can't say on the RXC -- as the chassis is a bit different. If you can take a photo or two I might be able to give you a better answer.

I have reached out to Radical UK directly, also going to talk with Team Stadale.

I will take some photos shortly, thank you.
