I am having frustrating problems connecting my laptop to LIFE system.  Somehow, it worked a few weeks ago and I dont really know how, but have made several attempts to connect and download data for review from a recent weekend event -no success.  I have followed the instructions from the Radical data manual explicitly, but car does not seem to want to communicate with my laptop.

Can someone please call me at 713-582-0571 and talk me thru this with a quick tutorial?  Once data is downloaded, I know what to look for and analyze, just need data download.

Dan

@raider89, glad to hear you got it working.  What was the issue?  If you had a problem it is likely that others will have the same problem.

For reference, here is the process I use as I've found the LIFE download to be somewhat finicky.

  1. Car off
  2. Laptop on
  3. Plug LIFE cable into car
  4. Plug LIFE cable into laptop
  5. Open LifeData
  6. Turn car on
  7. Wait 10 seconds
  8. Go to Device -> Read Data

This works about 2/3 of the time. If not, I disconnect everything and start from the top.

I am not fully sure of culprit yet - either bad cable adapter and/or bad Radical instructions.  I switched cable adapters to my laptop.  The instructions tell one to create files, then Read data.  However, no matter what I did, my laptop appeared to not communicate with the car.  However, as opposed to picking Create or Select, I simply picked one of existing subdirectories shown in list under File tab.  At that point, all worked fine and was able to download data.  It sounds more like dysfunctional user most likely.

@raider89 not so sure on the user error part 😉 . I had not had any success in connecting but decided to try again after seeing a couple threads on this - what seemed to work was connecting the cable only after starting up life data (which is probably effectively the same as the instructions above - turning on the car only offer making all the connections and starting life data).
