Hi All

I sprung a leak out of the potting of this electrical component connected to the thermostat housing. I guess it’s not the thermostat housing but a stand-off for the thermostat housing. What is this component? It wasn’t connected to anything.

Any chance I can get it at a local parts shop? I guess I could make a plug on the lathe, or maybe I can remove the stand-off  and connect the thermostat housing directly to the engine? I think that’s how the stock hayabusas are.

That additional spacer is just for housing the additional temperature sensor. This was used on earlier cars for the dash, so if you are not using the whole block can be removed.

The thermostat housing will bolt directly up to the engine and just make sure you use the thick O-ring that is currently between the cylinder head and that spacer. Shorter bolts will also be needed.

Thanks @rlm-dan! My dash is reading temp from the other sensor on the side of the block, so I think the entire standoff can be removed.

Feels good to add lightness.

I have an additional question. Is the temperature sensor on the left side of the block an OEM hayabusa sensor? Or is it something different? Thinking about replacing as the reading on the dash is not correct.

Do you have a picture of the sensor?

There were a few different ones used over the years, none OEM Suzuki from the factory.

attached is a pic. Do I need one of it removed?

I think the issue is definitely this sensor because the blue housing can spin around freely.

Will this also affect when the radiator fan turns on? My fan turns on about 3 mins after startup. Oil temp is pretty low at about 45C.

That is perfect, that is the later one used. The early versions of this did sometimes have problems with the temp reading and turning in the housing.

You want to be replacing it with Bosch 0 280 130 026.

The rad fan will be for water temp so around 3 mins could be right - what is the water temp at this point. What engine management system does the car run?

I’m not sure what engine temp is as the sensor is not sending to the dash properly. Oil temp is at the min reading of about 45C. But since the fan seems to be turning on then maybe the sensor is working and it may just be a connectivity issue to the dash?

I can also try unplugging the sensor when the car is warm to see if the fan turns off or not.
