2009 SR8 New Jersey / New York area
Hi All
Own a new to me SR8. Thank you to Charley for all your work on putting this site together! It was very helpful for me throughout the purchase process. Had my first day out yesterday and all I can think is why would anyone buy anything but a Radical?! I started in PCA and tracked a 911 turbo with lots of mods to be run on the track. Could’ve bought a new radical for all I put into that car. Easier to jump in and go out yes, but there is no comparison in terms of fun!
I was very lucky to have a seasoned owner / racer of radicals take me out for 2 sessions doing lead follow. I had one small off, due to locking up tires in the 3rd session. Thankfully I barely touched the tire wall before stopping. No damage, but lesson learned and practice needed on threshold braking! 4th session was great and I paid much more attention to braking and trying to get a good feel for the pedal.
Thank you again to Charley and all the members that help each other out on here!
John
Hi John, welcome to the site and to the frustration and joy of owning one of these amazing machines. I own a pair of SR8s (2007 and 2009) and do nearly all of the work on the cars myself. It's been a lot of fun learning about these cars, and you'll find this site a great place for camaraderie and information.
Tell us about your car, as far as you know. Did you get it from a Radical dealer? Do you know it's back-history? What kind of options? Left-hand or right-hand drive? Engine hours?
Enjoy the car and again: welcome!
Welcome John! I am glad to hear that your car (SR800077) got there and you had a chance to get it out on track. I am looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing about your experiences with the car. And, I strongly agree with comment about how much fun these cars are on the track. Once you have experienced a Radical it is hard to be impressed by street based cars.
Enjoy!
Charley
John, congrats on the SR3.
Are you near NJMP? I track there frequently with the Drivers Club. I normally run in our yellow group for open wheel/sports racer cars. There are typically only 2 - 3 of us in our run groups.
If you want to come down for a track day, let me know -- I can have guests and the track day rates are pretty reasonable. Would be happy to have another Radical on track with me, although I suspect you'd be past me in a blink...
I have a couple of videos online if you're interested...
Welcome John! (How many Radical owners are named John????)
As a former SCCA open wheel racer from NY (recently relocated to Utah) welcome to the club. Enjoy your Radical, I have had a blast with mine. John Sopa, your NJMP video brought back memories (or nightmares) of blind corners on Lightning!!
Thank you all.

I’m in central Jersey and was going to NJMP quite often with the Porsche. SR8 is currently at Monticello, however I just got a truck and trailer set up. I plan on going to NJMP at some point before end of the season. Next year I hope to venture out to the Glenn and maybe VIR with it.
Great vids John Sopa. Thank you! I was running with PCA and MOE groups at NJMP. Haven’t made it there yet this year and really missing it! I also have a few friends that are part of the Drivers Club, but would love to get on track with you at some point!
Looking forward t seeing pictures 🤩
Looks great John!
