Hello everyone, I placed an order for a SR10 back in November and it was finally delivered this week to Wisko.  I've been a member of VIR for almost 15 years and will be using it primarily for HPDE events.

I had previously been driving a 2016 Viper ACR Extreme but after having a tire separate at the last track event and thinking about trying to buy replacement parts if I ever had any damage (availability is scarce and the costs are obscene) I decided to buy a dedicated track car.  I looked at a lot of different options and after talking to someone at VIR who had a SR10 and Danyel at Wisko, decided to go with the SR10.

Another deciding factor for me was the help and community of this forum.  Since I will basically be self supporting, the willingness of Charley, David, Ron and many others to share their experience and knowledge has been reassuring and I hope to be able to do the same in time.

I'm a little nervous because I haven't actually sat in one yet (I'm 6'4 and did not get the center seat option but can squeeze into a F2000 car okay) and I have a steep slope going to my garage so I'm going to need to figure out how to get it in and out but can't wait to actually see it and drive it!

@darrahc

Welcome Clark! I got to see an SR10 up close this past weekend, and play tag with it on track (I've got an older SR8). It's very impressive in its engineering and fit and finish. I think you've made a great choice.

Now you need to get down to Florida during the winters and hang out with us at Sebring.

Congrats Clark! You should be killing anything on the track with that 10.

Curious how it would compare to the SR8. Keep us updated!

Hi Clark (@darrahc), Welcome!  Congratulations on getting an SR10.  They are amazing cars.  I am looking forward to hearing about your experiences with it. Feel free to ask any questions that you have about the car. 🙂

Thanks, Charley!  Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions!

@parsonsj - would love to make it down to Sebring.  I was down there years ago for a NARRA event and loved it!

@bill-snead - the great thing about the VIR member days is they have a separate group for open wheel and sport racers which usually never have more than about 10 cars.  There are some fast guys and I anticipate it will take me a little while to get up to speed with the car.

Welcome, I purchased an SR10 last year and been racing it with NASA here in Utah.  Reach out if I can help.

Welcome Clark.  It is a small world.  I live in Tennessee but I am also a member of VIR and I know Danyel and his team well.

I also have a steep driveway from the street.  A couple of 2x10s and wood block support underneath the dip might help.

I ordered an SR10 in January and was curious if you ordered the new Halo and if your SR10 has the new steering wheel position. If so what are your thoughts on them. Thanks

@slip_angle I didn't think the halo was orderable yet.  From what I was told it was only a prototype that was displayed.

@sr10formetoo You may be right. I was told they may be delayed as the first ones are going to existing customers that ordered them already to be retro fitted. The dealer said it may have to be shipped to me after I get the car. I was able to order it and the price was $3990.00 how is your SR10 experience going?

@slip_angle The SR10 has been an absolute blast.  The open cockpit is a whole new experience.  I started with the regular exhaust but then quickly moved to the quiet exhaust so I could pass the 105 db days at Laguna.  No change in performance.  Went with the center seat and std seat inserts rather than the bead-formed seat.  I share the car with a friend and with both fit great in the regular seat with inserts.  Driver position takes a bit of getting used to.  You are low to begin with but also sloped back. The amount of wind coming up over the front is quite surprising, so be careful giving the tally-ho to a course worker if not slowed down.  Closing and passing speeds are phenomenal so you have to be very course aware of who else is in the run group.  Make sure they see you coming - one of the reasons I chose bright yellow.  I do an arrive and drive with Stephen Cameron Racing out of Sonoma.  They transport the car and provide full support.  It is just wonderful.  You put on your helmet and go.  You are going to love your car.  Be safe.

@slip_angle I ordered mine in November and it was built in December. I asked if I could get the halo but was told it wasn’t available yet but all newer SR10s will be able to retro fit the halo.

As far as the updated steering wheel position, brakes, uprights, etc. I have no idea if my car will have it. I would love the raised steering wheel at a minimum because I’m so tall but I’m not holding my breath. I’ll find out in a couple of weeks when I see it for the first time.
