SR10 Operating Costs and Refresh Options

I have several questions about the SR10 platform that I hope can be answered or close enough estimations:

  1. What type of fuel does the RPE-Ford 2261cc engine require?
  2. What will be an average factory (SM or UK) engine refresh cost?
  3. What is the lifing and new price on Garrett turbocharger?
  4. Can the turbocharger be rebuilt/refreshed?  Cost?
  5. Will there be viable options for non-factory engine rebuilds?  If so, would such options be within the rules for Radical Cup racing?

another good question.  Radical says this:

This high-output engine is integrated with a new Hewland GT3-derived six-speed gearbox. The SR10 is Radical’s first application of the Hewland TMT transaxle, originally developed for the FIA F2 single-seater.

That is all I know.

I asked Spring Mountain and another dealer some of these questions, and this is what I heard.  Don't quote me on any of this:

What type of fuel does the RPE-Ford 2261cc engine require?

100 Octane racing fuel

 

What will be an average factory (SM or UK) engine refresh cost?

Nobody seems to know the answer yet.

I also asked how often the GDU must be refreshed, but again nobody will really know until it is used regularly by several owners.  However, it has been noted that the SR10 demo car has been holding up very well with lots of use so far.

I am considering placing an order for an SR10.  Curious if anyone has answers to some of the questions above?  How has the reliability been?  How are the running costs compared to the SR3?

 

Any insight is appreciated.

I just had my first race weekend in my SR10.  Here is some help 😀 

1. 100 Octane unleaded

2 - 5.  No one could give me the answer and personally I would rather not know at this time.  I can't image it will be cheap.

Having said that, this car is not in the same universe as the SR3.  In full power mode everything comes at you faster and harder.  This requires every bit of your focus and physically is significantly more demanding than the SR3.  After 20 mins of seat time I was marginally off the pace of an IMSA Audi R8 and Lambo Super Trofeo in the hands of accomplished drivers.  There is more time to be gained but it just indicates how much this car can do with a marginal driver.  

No really issues over the weekend except the Oil Pressure Relief Valve needed to be adjusted after my second session.  It threw a fault code and shut down the engine as a safety measure.  The following day I received instructions from the factory on how to adjust and the car ran great for the rest of the weekend.  

It is a very different driving experience than the SR3 IMHO.  I had to re-learn braking points, focus on throttle input and had to watch the limits of the tires.  The 300 pounds makes a difference with this much power and you can easily overdrive the Hankooks (which I did twice).  I recommend a test drive before committing so you know what you are getting into.  You can always dial back the HP but that kinda defeats the purpose 😆

Thanks for the update.  Like Charley, very jealous.  Really nice car!

What did you think of the brakes?  I did a test drive and thought they felt a little weak.  Only had 4 laps which does make it a little difficult to feel things out.

@trakmnky I am still getting used to cornering and braking at the SR10's speed.  Compared to the SR3 I agree, the brakes and tires don't hold up as well.  The extra 300 lbs and speed make a big difference.  That was my biggest challenge this past weekend.  There were not a lot of cars in my last race so I have no comparison on "out breaking" similar cars at the higher speeds.  Compared to the SR3 the brakes are not close but I am entering corners 20 to 35 mph faster then before.  I was surprised the tires (Hankooks) did not hold up.  I have not had enough time to determine if it is truly the tires or set up.  Time will tell.

Wow, I thought the SR3 was mentally and physically demanding.  My only comparison is my other race car, 2300 lb factory five challenge cobra with 600hp.  The SR3 takes everything I got running the car.  It is exhausting.  I think the SR10 would be out of my league.
