Carb to Fuel Injection Conversion Question
Hi All, are the barometric sensor and fuel pressure regulator hooked up to engine vacuum? They both have vacuum barbs but I can’t see anywhere to hook into vacuum on the Jenvey throttle bodies or intake side of the head? Also where are the baro sensor and fuel pressure regulator mounted, I can’t see them in any engine pics. Thanks!
No, on my car, they are both open to the atmosphere.
the baro sensor needs to see the outside pressure because that is what it is compensating for, and the FPR is okay with outside pressure. As long as the fuel map in the the ECU is calibrated for the same condition. The reason a FPR is referenced to the intake manifold is to maintain a constant pressure across the fuel injector. So at idle when the manifold pressure is low, the fuel pressure will be lower. But at WOT the manifold pressure is very close to atmospheric, the fuel pressure will be higher. You can skip all of that and compensate with injector open time to put more or less fuel in.
sorry for the long explanation,
Awesome, Thanks GraemeD. I’m hoping someone with a SR3 can snap a pic of where they are mounted.
And here are where the sensors are located on cars with Life ECU's. Since you are using an MBE ECU things may be a little different.

Hi Charley, looks like it's a little different on the later RS cars. On the earlier MBE version cars, the ECU sits right in front of the engine covered by an aluminum shield and it uses a simple inline regulator (see pics), I just don't know where the regulator and baro sensor mount on the earlier cars.
Hopefully somebody with an earlier gen 1 fuel injected car can shoot some pics.
