I am replacing my CV joints and I was looking at my spares which are a little different than the ones on the car. On my old CV I have a hard rubber part  inside that the axle head hits against from time to time.  on my new CV there is no rubber part. Does anyone know if you have to use the rubber part?

Hi  Chris,

Yes, you should run with axle pucks (that's my part name, lol). It's made from Delrin (acetal) and is glued in place at the factory with silicon adhesive (Permatex UltraBlack works well).  I got a replacement set of pucks from Spring Mountain Racing. They had 'em in stock. Clean your races well, put a good coat of UltraBlack on the backsides and push firmly in place. Wait 24 hours, then reassemble and regrease the tripod joint.  If you want to replace the tripods, you can get a  new set here:

I also posted there about where you can find the Oetiker clamps for the boots.

Thanks John for the info. I will give Spring Mountain a call on Monday.

see that no matter how many spare parts I have I never have something.
