@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com - G’day Charlie and others,

Getting close to running my SR3 for the first time and trying to find a local supply of decent fuel (rather than pump fuel which seems to be a bit of a lottery).  The guys who run the Radical Cup series in Australia use a control 98RON fuel, but I can’t get that easily in Tasmania.

I don’t think my SR3 long stroke motor has ‘closed loop’ AFR control, as I can’t see an oxygen sensor in the exhaust system.... so probably relies on factory programmed air fuel tables?... does that sound right?

I’m not interested in getting the last fraction of a % of power... rather I’m just trying to make sure I’m not going to stress the engine by running it too lean/or close to detonation, etc.

I’ve found a local supplier of PowerPlus 102 (unleaded, non oxygenated) and PowerPlus 105 (unleaded and oxygenated) ....see attached links

http://powerplusfuel.com.au/web/dyn_in/module_documentLibrary/Product_Data_Sheets_2016/PPRF_ProductDataSheet_2016_102_NE.pdf

or

http://powerplusfuel.com.au/web/dyn_in/module_documentLibrary/Product_Data_Sheets_2016/PPRF_ProductDataSheet_2016_105.pdf

I have a few questions, and I’m hoping you or someone else might be able to help.

- Would the PowerPlus 102 be a good choice?  I’m hoping it would give me a little bit of RON headroom for safety... and because it’s non oxygenated would probably still be ok with the ‘factory tune’ from Radical that’s in the car.

- if not would the PowerPlus 105 be better/safer?? Does the extra 3+% Oxygen, and the different stoichiometric ratio cause problems with the ‘factory tune’... or maybe just adds more safety factor again??

- I run Sunoco GT 260 Plus in another car I have, which is tuned specifically for that.  It’s a pain in the arse to get and I have to buy it in a 44 gallon drum, which takes me at least 2 years to use.... see the specs on that in the following link

https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuel/260-gt-plus

This is also oxygenated (4.7%) and looks very similar to the a PowerPlus 105... maybe I could use this in both my Golf R (550 hp at 34 psi boost) and my Radical??

....any and all advice very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help...

Rod

I run the Sunoco GT 260 here in the US in mine. That or VP 100 seems to be the fuel of choice.

@gwt561324 - Thanks Garrett.  Just to be clear, the Sunoco fuel I can get isn’t the GT 260.... its the oxygenated version called GT 260 Plus

... if I could get the GT 260 I would use it.

... see below the difference (they are shown at the bottom of the comparison table)

I’m hoping you guys can help me determine if the PowerPlus 102 is close enough to the GT 260 to be ’safe’ to use.... or if the oxygenated version GT 260 Plus would also be ok.

I run the oxygenated version. The VP version is oxygenated as well.
