Tire options and information
The DemonSpeed tire warmers looks like a great value. I had a couple questions about their use on a SR3:
With the car on its air jacks, is there clearance for the blankets to be used without removing the cowlings, or must the cowlings be removed/refitted as part of using the blankets?
With the blankets fitted and the car on its air jacks, if the engine is fired up to warm it before rolling to grid, does the viscosity of the drivetrain lubricants cause the rear wheels to rotate requiring the wheels to be blocked while warming the engine with the blankets in place?
A determined individual could get the blankets on and off with the cowlings still on the car. However it ends up being faster to remove the cowlings to get the blankets on. You can remove the blankets with the cowlings on with much less trouble.
The rear wheels do not need blocked - they are stationary when in the air with the engine on.
The heaters have side covers to keep the heat in the aluminum wheel too. I believe this helps the tire heat and stay warm.
Definitely. The brakes get warm as well as the wheels. For $800, given the time constraints of most TT sessions, they are a no brainer. I could be convinced to pay considerably more given how much they maximize track time.
Another option for those of you with multiple tires is to run the warmers on a spare set of tires and swap. This would remove the need for taking the body work off. Personally I think changing tires is more work, bit changing tires is also easier alone.
