Yes, they (Team Stradale) replaced it thinking that exact same thing - did not fix the problem (and I actually inspected the old bearing and it seemed to be in good condition).

Yes, I used the rubber pieces that the quick jack comes with. I think there were two different sizes that shipped with the quick jack - I forget which ones I used.
