I found a small local business that rebuilt my alternator in January, and is now rebuilding my starter, and boosting it 1.6 kW, from the 1.2 original. The price is amazing ($120 for the alternator, similar for the starter), but the best part is that they get them done in 1 day. They have all the parts needed on hand (bearings, bushings, armatures, electrical parts, etc.). If your housing is intact, it's a good alternative.

We got tired of expensive Mclaren alternators every 20 hours so we redesigned the alternator mount for a Honda Civic alternator.

$70-100 alternator, not bad

Summit Racing has them new in a box for $106.99 (Denso Remanufactured Alternators 210-0338)

Having said that my car still goes through alternators like oil changes.  The semi conductor components just keep breaking (vibration) or burning out.  For 2020 I've removed the semiconductor rotor regulator from circuit and am using a motorcycle style regulator rectifier mounted in the cockpit.  The only parts in the engine bay are the rotor, brushes and stator windings.  There is no closed loop control on the rotor current to limit voltage, simply a series resistor to limit current.  Voltage is limited by the reg/rect up top.  Watch this space and we'll see how we go...
