Hello,

Has anybody had any issues when connecting to the LIFE ECU to download data? I am trying to download data from the ECU for the first time and I have the vehicle main power on, ignition on, prior to opening up the Life Data software when I click 'device' 'read data' an icon box appears that says 'There are no devices available'. See attached image.

I was wondering if anyone had any similar issues in the past and if they found a solution?

Thank you for the help! I am trying to get data off the ECU for the first time and as of now are unsuccessful.

Thanks,

NicH

No, I have never had that issue.  Are you sure you are using the correct cable?  What cable are you using and where are you plugging it in?  There are two data download cables that look very similar but are not interchangeable.  To download the data from the Life ECU you should be using the cable on the right side of this picture.  It has a round plug on one side and a network connector (looks like a big phone plug) on the other side.  The port can be in different locations on the car, but on most SR3RS (Gen 2 ) cars it is on the right hand sidewall of the cockpit.

The cable show in the middle of the picture is used to download AiM data and has a smaller round plug on one end and a USB connection on the other side.  The data port for this cord is often on the dash.

I had the same issue. I tried on three separate occasions. Third time it started working. I don't know that I did anything differently. However now that it works it always works.

Charley thank you very much for the info and for the quick response! I got it working! I was trying to use the port labeled 'data' on the right side of the dash for the LIFE ECU since I saw there was a port on the Aim MXL Unit itself. Once I read your post I found the unlabeled Life ECU port and everything worked great! Thank you again for all your help and insight!

Thanks,

Nic H

Rebuild hours are recommended on total running hours. Engine hours are only logged when the engine is running, NOT from when the master switch is turned on.

As a new Radical owner, this is a bit of a surprise to me.  So far, I've spent much more than half my engine hours idling to warm up.  Idling is orders of magnitude less stressful on an engine than running on track at high rpms, so why would maintenance like oil/gdu fluids and rebuilds be timed off of an indeterminate mix of idling/run time?  If I am racing in warm weather vs cold weather my mix of idle vs run may be quite different!

Agreed but I am not the factory and do not make the recommended rules 🙂

Pre heaters are useful.

I guess it is worse considering even at idle you are cycling things like valve springs, even if not at a rate, plus most wear is caused to the like of bearings with initial fire up/cold running. These engines have a number of very small oil jets to feed the gearbox etc that oil will not flow through when cold.
