so my car is a bit of a strange mix of a radical SR10 wheel (not XX i know, but for the purposes of this thread it might be useful to treat them as the same thing), a 6" MXP display, and 3 slave devices - the GPS module, smartycam and shift lights, which i think are all hooked up to the PDM via 4-hub expansion port.

When i connect to the micro USB port (which i think is already different to the XX in that sense) with RS3, i can see 1 device - the PDM.

I can configure both the shift lights and the 6" display, which is great - i've set up my own pages and shift light colours/sequence, transmitted back to the car and it all works.

I need to draw a wiring diagram for my car so i can follow the cables and figure it out, but in the mean time, does anyone know how i can connect to the smartycam + the wheel to configure?

I can see the smartycam in RS3 as a tab in the PDM configs alongisde all the other tabs, where i can set what channels to display from the ECU/CAN. But i want to configure the device itself so i can play with the overlays/layout etc.

likewise with the wheel, i can't see that at all in RS3, i think i need to connect to it somehow with a seperate cable, i'm guessing i need to unplug the cord and plug the wheel directly into RS3 via USB? No idea.

i've heard @trailbrake is the resident expert on here 🙂

Think of it has 3 separate systems. You have found the way to connect to the PDM. The SCHD is connected with the USB Mini connector next to the SD card. I'm not sure how your car is wired, but there should be another USB connection. The SW4 has the harness that comes off it and then goes to a connector. On the car side, there should be either another USB bulkhead connector or a connector labeled USB.

@trailbrake

after removing the sidepod i've familiarised myself with how everything is all connected.

I hope you could possibly help me with an issue with the shift light module.

Attached to the PDM via expansion module is a shift light module along with GPS+MXP 6" display. The shift light module blinks a single red LED non-stop - i have tried all sorts to get it to work. Initially i was told to upgrade the firmware and that would fix it - so i updated PDM32 to latest firmware via RS3. That didn't work, but when i transmitted a new shift light config, it flashed up on the main display "UPDATING SHFL SN:7200456".

It reset the shift light module, went through some kind of 'startup' sequence, the blinking stopped and it looked like it was fixed. A few weeks later i went to start the car, the display flashed up that same message again randomly, and the shift light module went back to blinking red. Since then, i have tried all kinds of things to reset it - reloading the latest firmware to PDM32, disconnecting and reconnecting the module, transmitting various different shift light sequence patterns, nothing has worked. It remains stuck blinking red. Radical told me that several customers have experienced this with their XX and been advised to send the module back to AiM so it can be hard reset somehow.

have you encountered this before?

radical also suggested i could try rolling back the PDM32 firmware, then updating again, and see if that some how 'tricks' the shift light module into resetting. I've scoured the internet to find out how i can roll back firmware in RS3 but cannot see any option to do it. Do you know of a way to do this?

There have been some FW problems with the SLM on different systems. You can try unplugging it from the system and powering the PDM, then plugging in the SLM. If it is stuck in booter mode, it might have to go back to AiM. I'm sorry there isn't too much I can do with that problem.

to wrap up this thread..........the answer is that you need a cable from radical which allows you to connect the wheel directly to RS3 via USB.

part number LH0377.

It's a female deutsch connector on one end which you plug the wheel into, and USB port on the other.

The shift light module is also fixed -

AiM UK technical support did try their best to help, spent a few hours with them on the phone - they remote connected to my laptop and tried to rollback firmware, reload etc... at one point it bricked and i had to remove the PDM, take the cover off it and reset it via the engineer button.

Sent it back to them, they tried it on their test bench, couldn't fix it.......sent it back to Italy. They did something......and it all works now.
